King deo raendeu (2023)
So so so much better than business proposal
First few episodes aren't out of the world but the character development is what makes this show so good. This was a first k drama in a while and I was worried oh how are they gonna treat this predictable plot, is the girl gonna be always ashamed for being poor? That was so not what the air time was given to, thank goodness! They focused on the individual stories as much as romance and brought out some really good acting, comedy, charm and coziness. It's a good show to binge. Also the male character treats the female character equally (unlike Business Proposal smh). Lastly, TY for introducing me to Junho! He is such a good actor and talented overall. I am like amazed by him after watching multiple drama and coming back to this and then his other work!
Lucky: No Time for Love (2005)
I have always loved the songs but
All I will say is I wanted to watch this as an adult cause the songs have never left me. Then quickly I realized she is only 17 and he is atleast in college or later age? Then in reality I learnt that she WAS 17 and he was 40! She is cute and most likely could have had better coaching, especially for her voice. I have never seen her in anything else but I am writing this in 2023 and she is only 35! This movie 17 years old, so I'm sure she's made a career. Also wierd to learn that I always thought Katrina-alike was found by Salman, but never realized he did that with Ash too. I have never cared for his movies post 2000. I do wish they casted someone older cause the acting would have made the story probably stronger but I am glad they stayed low key with her character because she is too young to have been too involved as a character.
Omg came back to say why the heck did he have to carry her everywhere. Legit he had a gunshot wound on his arm, had been lying unconscious in the snow for awhile, and has not eaten in days and she just stars blinking and falling ALOT, and he Carries her. The ending was not greatly explained. This didn't hit my last nerve until they rushed the ending with Mithuns character, who apparently not only found the but also his car from where he was in the middle of nowhere. Y'all, why does bollywood do this! Story could have been decent. Omg writing this while watching, the last dialogue she says! When he says ghar challe, she says, "yes but not mine, yours". Girls ready to get married but she isn't even 18. While this happens, why gotta glamorize it? Also I have always ignored that in every song she slowly bows to him, slide down his side to be lower, like who choreographed some of those things? It's cute when done once or twice, but with all ^ this context, No no no. Not a movie to show young girls.
The Fame Game (2022)
Spoilerssasaas-
Takes bollywood nepotism took a whole another level and I can appreciate that. Criticizing the industry internally I feel like is harder and I think the actors brought into this show do a good job over portraying criticism. It's definitely needed. I think the cringe factor stays when the dialogues of the kids just show pure entitlement too. Like M. Khanna's daughter just saying "I'm out of this" like she is breaking up with her father for being selfish which he doesn't seem to, is just ironic. I think they could have done a little more with Manish character, but constraints there is probably a good sign where bollywood needs to go. Have not watched a recent bollywood movie probably in few years because I can't bring myself to watch anything that looks like has potential and is just usually a disaster of a disappointment.
I have never considered myself a Madhuri fan, but I might see why she is put at that level now. I appreciated bringing in her real career for a glimpse here too.
I'm glad they took the Abusive husbands character and came clean with it instead of subduing it as "that's just how it is". I think they do well with balancing two queer characters and their story too loving in India.
I think ending is a bit disappointing, but that's just any tv shows Hollywood or bollywood these days. There is just lack of good artistic direction to create a closure fill ending. I think they just didn't need the daughter to become so twisted, which brings to me to my original point, Nepotism for another level for sure which I think gives some justice to the two kids and how living in game hurts their own growth in life. But in honesty what the main character did wasn't fully clear and the why. Like ok you wanted to scare your husband but where was she going after getting dressed in the last episode.. back to her life? Wierd cause she committed bunch of crimes that was easily traceable and her daughter was an accessory. This is where the random bollywood ness comes in which the series hadn't really disappointed on until then.
Oscuro deseo (2020)
Just came here to say - lose the Therapist
To make sense of the story you kinda have to keep a notebook, but ofcourse it's not to be invested in. The show tries to have some feminine focus but it's really made for the male gaze aka the sex scenes aren't great. There's just a lot.
Oh yes I came here to say the most infuriating character is Alma's therapist and Alma when she is with the therapist. Pretty sure the next scene after seeing her therapist is the exact opposite of what should happen if you had a good therapist. Anyways it's tv but this kinda doesn't fly and shouldn't fly cause put your resources together to a)write a coherent story b) do your research even for characters that are just fillers.
