Believers (2020)
Ok if you're desperate
Very few really good paranormal shows. This is, alas, not one of them. But once you have watched just about everything, you can either re-re-watch something, or watch something new that might be 100% fiction. That would be this show.
They very casually show poor-quality and grainy footage and label it "archival footage" without saying if it is really the actual footage. Why did they deliberately deviate from the documentary standard of labeling it "actual footage"? There is only one reason I can think of: It's not the actual footage, because the entire thing is 100% fiction! "Archival" means nothing. It just means "from, intended for, or having to do with, an archive" and may be completely or partially faked. Sometimes they add the label "re-enactment" but not all the time, even when the footage is obviously more modern. And the people we are supposed to think are the real people who had the experience are obviously actors. And so are the re-enactors, so that's everybody! Then why be limited by the truth? They don't even make the usual disclaimer that the story is real but the names are changed. There is really no claim that these stories are anybody's actual experience. Watch if you want to hear a story, but it might not have happened to anybody.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Not Star Trek
It is disrespectful of the franchise to call this show Star Trek. This is especially true given that this is only 10 years before ST:TOS. There is zero effort to be a true prequel to TOS. No ships or tech resemble in any way Kirk's Enterprise or the world of that era. It doesn't need to truly look like 1960's Sci-Fi. But all tech looks better and more advanced than any other ST. This world is more negative, more combative, humorless, and dark, with none of the positive vision that drove Gene Roddenberry to create ST in the first place. He wanted to show that we could be better in the future than we are today. This show is 300 years in the future but we look and act exactly the same as we do today. We may end up that way, but shouldn't we be hopeful, at least?
Now, as to the show itself, there is far too much going on, too many characters coming and going, it's hard to care about any of them. I'm only on SE01:EP05 and I will keep watching because I have to. But I am not looking forward it.
Lethal Weapon (2016)
Do. Not. Fire. Crawford!!!!!!!!!
It will be the end of this show. Clayne Crawford is a better, deeper Riggs than Mel Gibson ever was, and I LOVE those movies! But this Riggs is deeper and more nuanced. Maybe because there are more hours available to develop him. Firing Crawford will be the end of this show. They are apparently not replacing Crawford with someone else to play Riggs, so at least there is that. But it will be a different show. And not nearly as good. I'm sorry but Damon Wayans and his family is not enough to carry the show forward.
