Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)
A great yet crude comedy!!!
I have to say that when I first was walking into this special screening I wasn't really expecting greatness. I had seen "Knocked up" and "Superbad" but I had never really gotten into them, but Forgetting Sarah Marshall definitely stood out from the two. Aside from its graphic nudity, the jokes were absolutely hilarious, they had the entire theater laughing hysterically. If you go and see this movie (which you Definitely should) just make sure you don't take it to seriously. The jokes are crude but you can't help but laugh because of the way they are said. The actors in the movie did a great job throughout and I promise you won't leave disappointed. The movie truly is a must-see!
Kz (2006)
A look at the holocaust through the eyes of those that now make a living in a town where thousands were murdered
I was very grateful to have watched this film at my college, through the traveling humanities caravan. By reading the synopsis I knew that this was going to be a different type of documentary. Mostly due to the fact that there would be no survivor stories. So I went in very skeptical on how this film would be able to effect me.
After all the film did indeed effect me. I loved how you got to see how the citizens of Mauthousen felt about where they lived and better yet, being able to hear about the way people perceived them. I believe it would have been much more emotional and effective to have added in real life stories of what happened to those who were forced into the concentration camps. But I do understand that that would be the typical holocaust documentary, and probably would not set "KZ" apart from all the others. The quiet of the town and the longstanding frames of the landscape brought the needed emotion to this film.
I would recommend this film for those that are interested about the holocaust, yet I would not recommend this for those who are just beginning to learn about it. I would definitely watch a documentary that tells real life accounts of what happened and then proceed on to watch this film. Watching this mixture will make you have a better understanding towards this tragic event.
The Covenant (2006)
Great potential but the movie didn't follow thru.
After seeing the trailer and finding out that it was from the writers of underworld I was all game to see this movie. It turned out that the plot was great and the movie could have been, but it needed some changes. The cast is very good-looking but unfortunately the acting wasn't as good as it could have been. I would give this movie a shot but I wouldn't expect to love it. I have to say that the music in the movie was really good, it really gets you in the mood to keep watching. All in all the movie doesn't bore you as to where you would walk out of the theater but you might just expect a bit more from a movie with such great potential.
