annoying
23 June 2006
As with all the Standard Deviants instructional videos, the presentation is condescending and annoying. The information is good, but all the stupid jokes and attitudes of the people in it makes the movie seem likes its for little kids. Perhaps they are for little kids, but even the high school videos are presented as if they are for 3rd graders. I have never figured out why the standard deviants videos are all presented in this manner, they would be much more effective if they just cut the crap and just gave you useful instructional information. I guess if you can put up with all the nonsense and don't mind being talked to as if you are a moron or a little kid, then you might get something out of this.

not impressed
23 June 2006
This film is a bunch of random pieces of old, deteriorating, film being played with music. Doesn't sound too interesting - and it isn't. According to the interview section on the DVD, Morrison explains that this film is some sort of symbolic expression of the decay that all life goes through. While this sounds like a nice analogy, the film doesn't really convey anything deep or philosophical. Just watching a bunch of old damaged film doesn't really end up conveying much of anything - all we get is to watch old film! The visual effect is sort of cool for about ten minutes, then its just boring. Its all black and white and just seems monotonous. Its like I get the point about decay in the first five minutes. The music in this film is excellent however, is you like abstract and dark ambiance music. In this case, the film isn't worth much but the soundtrack is great!

Glass half empty
6 May 2006
I was interested in this for some hard to find performances of Philip Glass. The down side was that the performance of Mad Rush is not the complete piece. It is only the beginning and then the very end, with the majority of the piece missing. The rest of the film is okay, but a bit sporadic and incomplete feeling. These are not standard performances, but instead it is a blended continuous flow of partial songs and random images. There are also some interjections of random images and footage of unexplained orgin, perhaps meant as an artistic abstract expressionist piece. Unfortunately, there is a fine line between abstract media art and just plain random, and boring, nonsense. I suppose its something that you have to watch and decide for yourself, if it was worth your time, or if you should have been doing something more productive like doing the laundry.

Angela Anaconda (1999–2002)
Great show
10 March 2006
This is what should be on the cartoon network and all other shows in this country, but thanks to Disney, it was canceled. This show is awesome, its weird and funny and off-key - which makes it fresh and interesting. There is one DVD out for about ten bucks on sites like amazon - very much worth buying in order to see this show, if you are an animation fan like me. There needs to be more shows with bite and sarcasm and social commentary in them like this show. Its hard to describe Angela Anaconda exactly, but the animation is surreal and she is like Bart Simpson in a lot of ways, and if you liked Bart you'll like Angela.
