Fresh (2022)
10/10
Excellent.
13 December 2022
I'm giving this 10 stars because it's a refreshing take on the typical horror/thriller genre. It's not a dark comedy although it doesn't take itself too seriously. Also, if you read every negative review of this movie it's just some appalled prude outraged that the entire movie didn't play out like the romcom lead up. Honey, it's a twisted gore flick, not The Holiday. Sebastian Stan is an absolute master of his craft and played the charming villain immaculately.

(Once again IMDB is making me add characters like I'm filling the word count for a high school essay, so here is some nonsense I hope you didn't actually read. Good day).

Devil in Ohio (2022)

Possibly the worst thing I've ever watched.
13 September 2022
I had hope during first episode, I thought give it a chance, maybe the actors just need to find their groove. I was extremely wrong. It's like the director specifically asked everyone to do their worst impersonation of a human being. The dialogue is disjointed, storyline is cliche after cliche, and the acting is just laughable. Netflix should be ashamed of this production. It's a cringey teen drama with zero redeeming qualities. Why am I still watching this? I don't know. Maybe I'm dead inside. Save your time though. This is straight trash.

Unexpectedly great

I adored this. It was unique, entertaining, and laugh-out-loud funny. The acting is great, the cinematography is beautiful, and I love the use of music to explain relationships between characters. If you have an odd and dark sense of humour, this is the show for you.

Sloppy
20 January 2022
This is an interesting story but as others have stated it is poorly executed. It's very sporadic, the timeline jumps around way too much and there's heavy overuse of dramatic visuals (2 minute scene of the map and string) with very little information given. I also agree they are leaving so much out and came at this from the wrong angle. It's hard to have any sympathy for those conned when they're presented as being just. That. Daft.

True Story (III) (2021)
4/10
Predictable, self-serving
8 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First off - I am truly convinced that all these 8+ star ratings are actually written by Kevin Hart himself. His acting is decent, but it should be - it's literally a movie about Kevin Hart playing Kevin Hart. Easy to act when you live that life every day.

On to the main issues - as others have stated, this movie is incredibly predictable. I called the 'twist' from episode one and can't believe they stretched it into 7 episodes of drivel.

The thing that bothers me the most is how self-serving the plot is. There IS no plot. You wake up next to a girl who has "clearly overdosed" - it's accidental death, you're in no way culpable, and even if there's an investigation you're a literal billionaire stop acting like mega celebrities don't get away with everything. So unbelievable as a start point. Then Kevin Hart going from scared and shaken to cold blooded killer over ... drumroll ... 6 million dollars! When he has a billion! ALSO - favourite scene by far was him, in dead seriousness, telling his agent he's going to cut spending time with his son in order to get 6 million more out of his movie deal so he doesn't have to take the loss to pay his bodyguard off in the end.

Giving 4/10 because the acting is good and it's shot well, just don't think too hard while watching it.

Ultimate synopsis: horrible ultra rich comedian gets set on a series of unbelievable events sparked by inconceivable scenarios to prove that money is the only thing that truly matters to him.

Mediocre Gore Flick
3 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Feat. The most unlikely "accidental" deaths, the fastest boiling kettle, and Adam Brody.

This isn't bad overall if you know going in it's an average at best movie. Based on reviews I had much higher expectations and that kind of ruined it.

It's got some funny lines and pretty good cinematography. The storyline is of course outrageous but it's a fun idea for the genre. Very thankful that upon discovering what "the game" really entails Grace just accepts it instead of going through the typical 30 minutes of shocked disbelief. The things I didn't like were how Grace all of a sudden decided screaming at the top of her lungs was a good idea while the entire family is trying to hunt her down and kill her? Otherwise she's a pretty smart character and Samara Weaving does a great job. I thoroughly enjoyed Adam Brody in this genre, but that's just as a die hard OC fan so take that with a grain of salt.

Overall, wouldn't watch again but a good flick to watch over a glass or two of wine with friends.

I See You (II) (2019)

Ruined with lazy details!
4 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly this movie could have been pretty good. It doesn't give a lot away, and it has some decent intrigue right up until the end. What gets me is the lazy details. When the cop is being 'stalked' by Alec with the axe, why have him stare blankly at that record player for so long? A cop with that much experience would never. That scene could have been so much more fast paced and believable. And the girl in the woods at the end yelling into her cellphone, come on. Run away and get taken down that way. Also - those flimsy particle board cupboards locked with zip ties? My toddler could escape those. There was a bit too much repetition for me as well; once they revealed the surprise we don't need to see it all over again from the other persons perspective. Overall it's worth a watch but definitely has its flaws.

Rose West: Born Evil? (2021 TV Movie)
2/10
Jumbled Mess
4 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Let me begin by saying everything about Rose West's life is extremely interesting from a true crime standpoint. So to take such a wealth of information, including an interview with someone who lived with them for years while they were committing these murders, and present it in such a confusing and unwatchable way is a shame. The timeline is all over the place, jumping back and forth between decades and talking about a killing as it was happening then showing news stories from 20years later when they were discovered. It's so confusing to tell what order things were happening in. They made awful editing decisions such as the audio would say they killed 6 women then show a picture of 10 women. Overall very difficult to watch, felt like a bad Christopher Nolan true crime spinoff.
