La main au feu (1989)
HAND IN THE FIRE IS HOT, BUTT IT DOES NOT BURN
Sex in the great outdoors. A car thief seduces unwitting guys in the bushes, then steals their vehicles while their pants are down. Do they catch him.? "LA MAIN AU FEU" is aka "HAND IN THE FIRE". The cinemetography is quite good considering the release date, 1989. Also, the sex scenes are all entirely bareback, even though this was on the cutting edge of the pre-condom era due to the then AIDS crisis. Sex in the great outdoors. Too Big for His Britches (1988)
12 Inch Cock May Have Been The Alternative Title to This Big 80s Edge Demi-Classic
This late 1980s film does a fine job in terms of videography excellence and stellar appearance, i.e. The beginning shower scene involves golden age icon, Big Bill Harrison (cock only)! The acting is above average per golden age porn. There is a female actor who is excellent as the office girl as the big britches actor applies for a job. Chad Douglas appears in a raunchy steamy hot scene that is very well done. No details due to spoiler effect are given. ...In the Name of Leather (1982)
Darkish Leather "Party" Is a Daniel Holt Feature And He Does Shine
A rather slow-moving movie of the pre-condom era that is notable mainly as a vehicle for star Daniel Holt, actually interviewed by an enamored host regarding Holt's favorite leather pieces. I would call this a "light leather" movie, basically involving a gay harness party. Still, if one appreciates role-playing in this fashion, then one might easily enjoy this movie. It picks up speed in the last third of the hour long film, wherein Holt is loved on by several men encircling him. It is mostly ejaculating and shining him with a body cum bath that is involved, as well as one guy working the dildo in Holt's lower orifice. There is no "rough play" in this film possibly because of the time this film was released with stricter cencorship laws in the various States (i.e. there is no whipping). Also, very little dialogue other than the aforementioned interview with Holt. Good for a boring rainy night.
More of a Man (1991)
Joey Stefano Is More of/ Than A Man in His Breakthrough Performance
Joey Stefano shines on in this first and possibly best of his performances in this 1990 release. His character struggles from the get-go of the movie with an ambivalence as a Roman Catholic, albeit one who prayed the rosary, and his deep homosexual feelings. Prayer is offered at different points in the movie i.e. "I realize it's a mortal sin, but I really want to go to that Gay Pride parade." He meets an AIDS activist in Mike Henson's character and falls for him upon first meeting, introduced by drag Queen Chi Chi LaRue. "Duffy, meet Vito". Chi Chi is a revelation in this movie both as a powerful singer and actor in her role as the sympathetic drag Queen who is easily relatable to her guy friends. The end of the movie is highly symbolic, wherein "Vito and Duffy" are on the inside of a globe structure on a float, experiencing the depths of intimacy, and, the last clip shining is a used condom and a rosary, side by side. Which one will win out? Free sexual expression or religion? Or does there need to be a conflict between the two? These are the questions of the struggling gay.
Red Ball Express (1981)
1981 Edge Film Does Not Disappoint w/ Hyper-masculinity at its best poring through the film
This film was unique in the field of erotic gay film accentuating certain parts of the male anatomy with a hyper-masculinity throughout that was extremely effective. One of Daniel Holt's best performances as the newscaster in Chicago whose makeup man, David, has an inviting time with his "Mr. MacDonald" in the backroom. "You have two minutes, do you think you're gonna make it," inquires the Producer through the PA? Daniel's character replies, "I don't know." This was released at the height of pre-condom erotic film and possibly one of the high points. It builds up to a great ending wherein eight of the Red Bull delivery men meet together at the main facility in Arkansas, and o what a party they have. Masculinity was oozing through every pore of these men. The end leaves you craving for more, even as there was not a boring moment in this action-packed film.
Pleasure Beach (1983)
Minor classic at a crossroads
This minor gay classic is at a crossroads, both in terms of the time in which it was released and the subject matter of two young men coming to terms with their gayness. It is dealt with beautifully as a relationship blossoms between Tom and Steve. Steve is uncomfortable with a part of himself, whereas Tom ultimately helps him fully embrace that part of himself. A beautiful backdrop of the Pacific ocean with riveting sunset as well as compelling cinematography keep the viewer captivated.
In the last quarter of the film, a stunning black and white visual of Tom loving on Steve during the night-tide brings a retro meaning to the word "edging" for pleasure and love. (That scene is quasi-reminiscent of a similar scene in a gay film from a decade earlier: that of Wakefield Pool's "Boys in the Sand").
In this pivitol scene, there is a "heavy load" of face and penile kissing, very artfully performed. Tom handles Steve's most intimate parts with tender yet very sensual care as the smallest frames are highlighted.
Following that zenith of sensual experience between Tom and Steve, Steve leaves a note on the bed to be found by Tom next morning. To Tom's dismay, it states that "After last night, I don't want to see you again." Yet Tom knows "what's going on inside that head" of Steve's. What happens in the final scene of the film is for the viewer to discover!
Sizing Up: Before Your Very Eyes (1984)
XXX LARGE-SIZED FILM IS AMAZING AND ON THE EDGE, 1984
This was an amazing film, slightly ahead of its age, except for the fact that it was right on the outer edge of the pre-condom years. It was roughly around this time that gay adult films began to be shot with condoms as a quasi-educational tool for the viewers. This film has great actors and timely music of the Big 80s with phat synth sounds (and not the usual cheap-boring-monotonous music found in much of porn). The film really standing out with respect to this above-average soundtrack, adding to the "artfulness" of the film. The film also has a great dance scene, adding to its overall "artfulness". And --- the sex is --- well --- you'll just have to watch to find out.
Jeff Pirelli is a revelation in this film, possessing boyish innocence and refreshing naturalness. He is sized-up as surely handsome, with wide-spaced dark eyes, reflecting Italian features, and he fits comfortably as a natural in this cast. Of course Matt Ramsey aka Peter North is every man's favorite, and showed off his usual ass-ets in this film in the now classic third sex scene. My personal favorite is one of the handsomest gay actors of the 1980s whom in a sense defined gay film for that era, e.g. one Leigh Erickson (or Leigh Patrick as dubbed in this film). In the fourth and last sex scene, Leigh is well-positioned in a threesome, though he does not engage in full sex in this scene, nor, regrettably in the entire film.
Sailor in the Wild (1983)
Bill Henson's charm rides high in this movie
This was a stunning outdoor extravaganza with new kid on the block Bill Henson (not to be confused with Mike Henson). The cinematography was quite good considering this was a low budget compared to Hollywood mainstream movies. Henson's character is delightful and one gets "all" of Henson and this overall sense of him is positive. His charm is radiant. The film does have a plot which is nice to see in gay porn.
