Clara (2018)
Never stop looking
One of the best original scripts in the Science Fiction film genre, I've come across.
Deep, profound philosophical concepts coupled with scientific ideas in a beautiful nectar. Patrick J Adams and Troian Bellisario act with breathtaking sincerity and craft.
And that ending. Left speechless towards the ending. That ambiguous endings has had me reading and trying to understand what just happened and what can, in the future.
Beautifully made by Akash Sherman. He's a rising star. Definitely going up. 💯
Breathe In (2013)
Fresh, delicate, real.
This is a mesmerising blend of powerful storytelling, a masterfully-crafted direction and some really good acting performances. Oh, did I mention the soundtrack?
Each sequence feels like a cake being baked in layers : one layer serving as base for another. No sequence ever feels out of place for a plot that could easily have been made into a travesty.
A plot that seems to be hackneyed when you first read about this film or perceive from the trailers, actually never is. It carefully lingers along the fine edges of family idiosyncrasies ; each interaction feels earned and no opportunity is ever wasted.
Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones give one of their best acting performances as a washed-up musician and a gorgeous exchange student respectively. Each interaction between them feels realistic and you start feeling for them as the plot progresses.
Amy Ryan acts just with her eyes with a finesse that never ceases to amaze you. Mackenzie Davis is a find; considering this to be her first major role in a motion picture.
Coming to the soundtrack, the first thing I did after the movie ended was to look for the music composition that makes this movie what it is. The interactions mentioned above probably won't have a lasting effect as they did with such ethereal music compositions ringing in the background.
Breathe In is a movie one breathes in and experiences firsthand how a myriad of subtle yet powerful human interactions affects our emotions which we express.
A unique family drama for sure.
Rating : 9/10.
Patrick Melrose (2018)
You start watching it for Benedict Cumberbatch, you end up loving the show too.
First of all, Benedict Cumberbatch deserves all the awards for this series, this year. Period.
You've never seen him like that before.
The series is so uniquely crafted which communicates the story in just 5 episodes without making you wander off anywhere else.
Jennifer Jason Leigh has given one of her best performances ever.
This series made me laugh, and at times even emotional.
I don't think this has ever happened before in a series less than a single-digit number of episodes.
The fabulous performances of the cast and the unique style of direction makes it compelling to watch by putting you in the passenger's seat with Patrick(Benedict) on your side in the driver's seat.
This is quality TV at it's best.
9 🌟 / 10
A Quiet Place (2018)
A taut, riveting, exhilarating, tense Quiet Place.
Oh, man where should I start?
When's the last you've watched a film with almost no dialogues, at a runtime of mere 90 minutes that gave you chills?
Welcome to A Quiet Place.
Not a horror movie. Just one of the impeccable, intense thrillers of our time.
Sensational Direction, well-written, brilliantly acted this movie deserves all the praise it has been getting.
A moment of silence for the ones who couldn't watch it in the theatres. They've missed one of the finest cinematic experiences of the decade. 💯
Emily Blunt, oh wow. Giving another sensational performance, it's gonna be one blunt-force kick on this year's nominations.
Starring alongside her real-life husband, the ever-fantastic John Krasinski.
Cherry on the top?
Written and Directed by John Krasinski himself.
Not to be missed.
9.2 🌟 / 10.
Ozark (2017)
There is no off season. Welcome to Ozark.
Captivating, Exhilarating, Brilliant.
Jason Bateman as the protagonist Martin Bryde and also in the director's shoes creates a uniquely sensational outcome.
The background score, the supporting cast have never been better.
The dark tone, the writing and the perfect pace of this show makes it one of the best Netflix Original TV series.
Season 1 was phenomenal, and it's now back for a sophomore run.
Give it a run.
Not to be missed.
Welcome to Ozark.
Ozark: Reparations (2018)
There is no off season
As the title of both this season and this review suggests, this is how you return for a much-awaited season.
Jason Bateman is back both as the protagonist Martin Byrde and into the director's shoes, and he hasn't disappointed.
The writing, cinematography has been never better.
Solid start to the sophomore run.
Kudos, Netflix.
Westworld (2016)
Is control an illusion?
Do you like solving puzzles?
Because, welcome to Westworld ; this is not a TV show, this is one big maze.
Intricately crafted, sensationally written, beautifully directed, this is one of those thought-provoking shows that you dive into with the serene Ramin Djawadi music in the background.
Not for the ones who like having crappy dialogues one after the other just for the sake.
It's for the ones, who like decoding complex storylines with loads of ambiguity.
Another HBO masterpiece. A game-changer.
Welcome to WW.
Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018)
Not your usual fast-paced action thriller.
Another example where the Critics' reviews do not stand up to the reality.
Keeps you on the edge of the seat right from the start until the very end.
A brilliantly written, carefully directed sequel to the 2015's Dennis Villeneuve's Sicario showcases a story looming over the US- Mexico border relations.
Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin are back with a bang!
This movie is for those, who still like to watch movies which are logically correct, which stick to the plot and don't have action scenes just for the sake.
Stefano Sollima has not only stood up to the expectations but has also delivered a sensational flick.
