I Was Bamboozled

I never leave reviews. I think this is my first review in 15 years. But I am so offended by this pretentious piece of garbage, I have to (briefly) vent my frustration, anger, annoyance, boredom, etc.

I gave one star each for the sound design and for the acting. I feel really bad for the lead actor because boy, did he deliver. He's like that student in a group project who ends up doing all the work while everyone else just slacks. Not that the girl was bad, but she could have delivered more.

Talk about a movie that asks too much of its audience. Seriously, do the filmmakers realize that we, the audience, are gifting them our valuable time to watch their movie? No. We are INVESTING our time, so it's not a big ask to have them deliver something worth our while.

I usually really enjoy slow-burn films. But if you're going to make an avant garde slow-burn, PLEASE keep us interested. WE WANT TO BE INTERESTED. But no, in this case they bored us to tears. And those of us who doggedly stuck with it until the bitter end received no reward. And that's what angered me.

Do yourself a favor and skip, unless you have a hard time falling asleep at bedtime.

The Unborn (2009)

Awful

Just don't see it. It's awful. So bad. You've already seen all the "best" parts in the previews. And Gary Oldman? Why have you done this to us? Oh, the shame of it all. Upside down heads. Creepy kid. Kaballa. Oh yes, folks, it's all in there. Even a basketball coach who just so happens to dabble in exorcisms. And who actually signed a paycheck for the makeup artist? The poor girl in the movie...her skin looks so bad. I mean, it was a real distraction. Maybe I was paying attention to that because the rest of the movie was so uninteresting. It also contains the worst German accent I have ever heard.

Have I mentioned how bad this movie is?

Sigh. Don't see it. Please.

Quarantine (2008)

Finely Tuned

As far as horror movies go, I have to place this one pretty high on the list. I do love a good horror movie, but most horror movies today aren't very good. There are so many more elements that play into making a scary movie than blood, guts, and a little profanity in order to make it a good one. This one has suspense up the wazoo, blood, guts, and a candor that is rarely seen in the horror genre these days. This movie looked exhausting to make. I think a few of these actors, particularly Jennifer Carpenter, got a loooong nights' sleep after wrapping the film. I got exhausted just watching them freak out. If you're looking for something that will make you cringe, jump, and possibly squeal, look no further. This one has just a little something for everyone. This is a good horror film.
