The Story of Respect (2011)
Shame it doesn't have the right charm
Has to be one of the worst films I've ever seen. I think it actually fails in all departments, cinematography-there are scenes you can't see, sound-you can't hear, FX-why? Nudity for its own sake which is a bit uncomfortable to watch. A meandering spurious story, thinly drawn characters and some terrible racial stereotypes. My view is the Romeo and Juliet scenario played out as an inter-racial relationship in modern times has yet to be done well. Here there is not one believable performance from any of the actors. It's one of those films where you sit waiting for something to happen all the while being shown this other stuff that you'd really rather not be looking at. Then it ends. A money back scenario this. If I was in it I'd take my name off the credits. Wait a minute-I did do that.
The Perfect Love Song (2011)
A good indie movie but unfortunately with some distractions
This is a feel good movie about musicians making an album. Samuel Victor and Jennie Shotton play J.J. and Kayleigh, two isolated human beings who team up to write and perform the perfect love song. The songs are pleasant and the characters are sympathetic and likable even Yasmin Turner as Rebecca. There is a nice dynamic between the characters which makes the movie enjoyable to watch. There is almost as much music as a musical but it doesn't feel much like a musical.
However I didn't like the many edited camera angles and the quality of the film can be bad at times due to blurry footage and poor lighting etc.
Movies like this are pleasant and uplifting to watch - if you want a break from action or violence of summer blockbusters.
I'm Still Here (2013)
A beautiful love story ... starring leukaemia
My friend recommended this movie to me on the type website with a warning of you're going to need tissues. Let me just say, I don't cry watching movies, but this, honestly I have never cried so much. It was an amazing movie portraying the different emotions felt by the family. It wasn't just about a guy who deals with death, but about falling in love, others being his rock and him being other peoples' rock when they needed it the most and how the smallest things have such a big impact. The tenderness of the relationships was beautiful. Dan Burman did an amazing job as did Rebecca Bailey. What a wonderful and beautiful way to portray young love in such a sad situation. Would highly recommend this movie.
