Euphoria: Stand Still Like the Hummingbird (2022)
An amazingly accurate portrayal of addiction
Now, I usually don't watch this show. As the younger sister of a recovering addict, I steered clear of this show aside from social media due to personal triggers. My mom, however, can handle it. She put on this episode (which I already saw a clip from on Twitter that rocked me to my core) and I decided to brace myself and sit down to watch it with her. Needless to say we both cried. This show is so important, and it's most important when it dives deep into Rue's addiction, that isn't just an addiction, but a disease. There are many people that need to learn how to watch this show with empathy, although, I understand better than anyone where the frustration with Rue comes from. The scenes with her, Leslie, and Gia were outstanding, as was everything else. For a long time, I was in Gia's shoes, so watching the hellish effect all the chaos has on her felt rather personal. I could go on and on for days about all of this, but I'm deciding to end it here. Watching that episode was triggering yet therapeutic, and I believe it should be shown at schools to really hammer into students what addiction is and what it does to families everywhere. Thank you Euphoria. Thank you for this.
