Jenny Slate: Stage Fright (2019)
Comedy is subjective.
Was surprised to come on here and see bad reviews and such a low rating. This is a stand up special I will inevitably come back to time and time again. I love her special brand of humour, had me smiling and giggling throughout. A lot of comedy either is watchable but not funny, or will get a couple of laughs out of me. She is very quirky, likeable and real. This really brightened up my whole day!
You: Hands Across Madre Linda (2021)
Best episode of season 3 so far
Anti vaxxers getting offended by this episode is hilarious. The best episode of the season so far but nothing lives up to the first season thus far. Love's chaotic ways are driving me a bit mad and I'm not sure how much more of her I can take.
Summer of 84 (2018)
Decidedly average but watchable. The ending saved it.
It's OK, easy watching, a bit of excitement and nostalgia back to the days when we were all far too trusting. The ending is a brilliant change of time.
However... 2 things annoyed me so much that it took it down a mark or two.
#1. Why does the older almost 18 year old girl want to hang around with the little kid who spies on her changing? Maybe she likes the attention but it just feels a bit too weird.
#2 his parents reaction when they show them all the evidence. They literally had a t-shirt belonging to a dead child with blood on it! Classic terrible parents just to push the plot forward. The script could have been thought about a bit more.
The Block Island Sound (2020)
A medium burner would be more accurate
I don't usually write reviews but feel this film is grossly underscored. A lot of reviews here say it is slow and boring - I was honestly hooked from the beginning and it held my attention throughout. I've watched a lot of slow burn horrors (the lodge comes to mind) which were rated higher than this and were actually quite boring. This is well acted, atmospheric and the ending is one of my favourites in a long time. Give it a go if you don't need blood, gore or jump scares to find a film interesting.
Dracula (2020)
Don't listen to the haters. A fresh approach.
Almost all of the reviews here complain that it gets worse as it goes on. I felt the opposite. Episode one was well made, I appreciate that but it was the same old Dracula story that's been done to death. Episodes 2 and particularly 3 took it on a new direction which had me hooked. I've read the book, love it, it's a classic, but I really enjoyed this new take on the story. I think a lot of people just wanted another Dracula re-hash. Go into it with an open mind.
