Pretty Hard Cases (2021)
Chick lit - and surprisingly well written
This is not a drama, and not a comedy. This is chick lit.
At first, Wazowski (played by Meredith MacNeill) is annoying. It's a bit difficult to believe someone so insecure could be a detective. But through the first season, you see her character displaying both compassion and insight. And her character grows on you. Actually all the female characters grow on you, even the villain, who's not nearly as smart as she thinks she is.
Blood of Zeus (2020)
Slow, boring and predictable.
For anyone who's read or seen any Greek fantasy, the original myths are far more nuanced. In the Blood of Zeus, the characters are one-dimensional and very predictable. In many places, the dialog was trite. Not worth your time.
Dragon's Dogma (2020)
derivative and cliched story
I only watched the first two episodes. But that was enough. In the pilot episode, the main character's family and village is destroyed so he vows revenge. It's an origin story I've seen in a dozen other shows. In the second episode, the protagonist saves a girl from being sacrificed to a monster. The he finds out the village's mayor is using fear of the monster to control the villagers. I've also seen that plot device in a dozen other shows.
Don't Look Deeper (2020)
Better than I expected.
This was better than I expected. The acting was top notch. The writing, directing and camera work all pretty solid. I liked the way the story with both the issue of self discovery. What I didn't like was the 8-minute episode format. And the failure to dig deeper into why a human-like artificial being could be a threat to society.
