Wicked Pursuits (2003)
Good low budget movie
This movie was interesting. It is set in the South, a murder mystery with a black girl and a white girl searching for their lover's killer. Along the way, they come across racists, civil war re-enactors, crooked cops, a dominatrix, and more! Yes, quite an original plot, but what is best about it is that it is shot on 35 which is a surprise seeing as this is obviously a low budget film. I enjoyed it very much, surprised with the intense sexuality in it, not like the usual 'stupid sex scenes' that are prevalent in today's Hollywood movies. I would recommend it especially to people making their first film, as this is a true example of what you can really do with little money on a first project.
Love Liza (2002)
Intense display of a man...falling apart
What can I say about this film. When I first was going to see it, I heard jokes about it, like "that's the movie where the guy just huffs a lot of gas through the whole thing." Please, if you hear that, do not take those comments seriously.
This is an incredible heartbreaking depiction of a man's circle through despair after his wife kills herself. Phillip Seymour Hoffman once again blows the screen away with a very human performance of grief, anger, and self-neglect. It portrays the reactions of the people he encounters with quiet exactitude - the coworkers, friends, neighbors, and bizarre model plane club members. I recommend this movie, though you will probably only be able to watch it once.
