Castle: Linchpin (2012)
Wow... and I thought it couldn't get worse after last week.
Castle for some reason thinks that it has to keep outdoing itself, which unfortunately makes for horrible, schlocky television that is so overdone that I can barely watch it. My girlfriend and I were either laughing at how ridiculous these last two episodes were or seriously considering just turning it off. The only time I have ever felt like this about a show is when Stewie showed up on Bones season 4. Castle and Beckett didn't do much more than stand around and watch all the action for the entire episode. I like Castle, but the show needs to go back to its roots and stick to what it's good at... solving murders. This isn't 24. And they certainly shouldn't try to pack an entire season of that show into one episode of this one. Get back to the dead bodies, Castle. Now, we are going to go watch some Law and Order: Criminal Intent to detox.
Lost: The Shape of Things to Come (2008)
Finale caliber episode in the middle of the season
After seasons 2 and 3, where every episode could be hit or miss, and after it looked like season 3 would fall apart midway through, it's refreshing to see this season bring back the same caliber stories and writing as season one. Possibly this is the season that brings LOST back to the Golden Globes and the Emmy's. Every episode of season 4 has been amazing, and 'The Shape of Things to Come' is right up there with 'The Constant' as one of the best episodes in the history of the show. Michael Emerson pulls off an amazing performance, exponentially expanding the character of Ben to make him one of the most intriguing characters on the show. His reaction to Alex's death was heart wrenching. I'm looking forward to more great episodes this season and in the seasons to come.
Friday Night Lights (2006)
Best Show on TV
One of the most compelling, realistic, involving dramas I've ever seen on television. I wasn't interested in this show for a long time, because it just didn't seem like my kind of show. My parents, however would not stop raving about it, and every time I talked to them, they'd always say something about the show, so I decided to give it a try. I've been watching the show online, and have stayed up past 1 the last three nights because I just can't stop watching. Any critics of the filming style need to look at the other good parts of the movie. I don't know why people have problems with a shaky-camera style of filming, I think it does add a certain effect to the film making. They used it for Saving Private Ryan, The Bourne Ultimatum, and other quality movies, and the key is using it wisely. Football is a rough sport, and the movie is about tough subjects, so it makes sense to give the camera-work a little rough edge. It gives it a certain style. Maybe it's not your style, but that doesn't make it bad. Whether or not you agree with me about the camera work, that doesn't change the fact that this is a quality show with real life characters, and tense drama that cannot be missed. If it doesn't continue for many more seasons it will just prove that the television networks have completely sold out.
