A Tourist's Guide to Love (2023)
Worth a watch if you can't find something better
Did I like the movie? Mostly yes. It is a completely unrealistic love story with a ton of tropes. The dialog is stiff and unnatural. I didn't really feel the chemistry. To meet their diversity inclusion quoata, they tossed in a black lesbian couple. Kind of surprised their kid wasn't trans. I am just tired of "inclusion" just to check a box.
The love story feels unnatural. A tour guide spending all of his free time with the single female tourist? In real life, the guests would be creaped out by this.
The filming was great. The scenery was gorgeous. Looking at the air pollution there about gave lung cancer, but that is viet Nam.
Do I regret watching it? No. I didn't have any thing better to watch.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
The Cinematography is great. But...
The cinematography was great, but cinematography generally does not make a movie. It is fabulous as an enhancement, but when a movie or tv show relies on the cinematography and special effects to keep the audience interested, the appeal quickly dies.
I've watched four episodes so far hoping to be captured by the story. I want to feel close to the characters. I want to feel empathy for them. I want to see them really reach within themselves. So far, all I feel is meh. I have no problem with strong female leads, but they really need depth of character and so far it is very lacking.
The story feels way to forced. It does not feel organic. Furthermore, they have too many things going on at one time. They would have done much better sticking with one or two main groups. So the story is dull and not focused, but the cinematography is.
Mother's Day (2016)
Poor implementation of a cookie cutter progressive checklist.
Essentially, the writers must have brain stormed... or whatever people without a brain do that resembles brainstorming... anyway they decided that the best thing to do is to include the following...
Lesbian moms
mixed raced moms
dad moms
divorced moms
Come to think about it, I can't remember them including straight married moms.
And of course they had to make the parents of the lesbian and mixed raced moms cliché dumb conservative bigots.
It would be fine if the story was actually something that didn't feel absolutely forced. But when you have to jam all of the cliché relationships together, it is near impossible to make it feel natural.
Not worth watching.
Finding 'Ohana (2021)
I set my expectations way too high
What do you get when you take some parts of "The Goonies", "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and a bit of "Ghost" and throw them in a blender and smash it with a hammer? You get "Finding Ohana"
Kind of like Goonies, but without the drama, suspense, action and fun.
And really... a river of lava on Oahu? The story line doesn't make sense half of the time.I can get over the lack luster acting. the the directing was blah.
Kids would probably enjoy it.
Jeff Dunham: Relative Disaster (2017)
Big Dissapointment
Oh, what happened Jeff? You can tell a comedian is going down hill when a mostly family friendly comedian has to turn to vulgarities to get laughs. Sorry Jeff, it doesn't work for you.
Your routine was sad and flat. I shut it off half way through because it wasn't getting any funnier. Go back to your roots man.
