D-War (2007)
Awful...in every sense of the word.
The story was so-so to start with, and I wouldn't say that there was bad acting, so much as bad writing. The action, was pretty terrible. I actually read somebodies review that said the final 20 minutes had some good action...I must disagree. The evil army, luckily falls into the hole in the earth created by "The Heavens", summoned by the magical necklace. Which, speaking of, saves the hero from a sword fight. He is stabbed, yet the magic necklace saves him. Oh, and it saved him from a gun shot. Basically, the story would have turned out well for the hero's, because the necklace existed...that is what I took from this movie.
Also, speaking of the gun shot. You know, some movies, people are shot, and a cross, bible, other object they have on a necklace or in their pocket saves them from dying...but not here. Our hero is shot, and just shakes it off. They don't even really say anything like..."Wow dude, you just got shot, are you OK?" or..."Holy crap...that dude just shot you from like two feet away, did you catch the bullet with your teeth like you're Bruce Leroy in The Last Dragon?"...Which by the way...way better movie than this. Nor did they say the obvious..."Holy crap, I just got shot point blank, and shook it off...how did I end up in this movie...remind me to fire my agent." NO...they say..."Are you OK?" He says yes...and they just walk off.
In short...if felt like a story that should have been about 3 hours long, with more explanation and character development...but, sadly, what you got was...Hey...that movie you guys asked for a twenty-five million dollar budget for...here is a dollar eighty for the movie...a few hundred grand for some special effect, and here's three hundred grand...because some how we talked Robert Forster into being in this movie. Oh yeah...and you need to knock off an hour and a half. Sorry.
Avoid at all costs.
Angel: Not Fade Away (2004)
I hated and loved this all at the same time...
Well...all good things must come to an end. And, if you didn't think this was a good show...well why are you reading this and why are you going to watch the series finally anyhow, right? It was my understanding that this was not necessarily meant to be the last appearance of Angel, but according to IMDb, David Boreanaz had no interest in doing a TV movie or mini-series once this show came to an end...and well...I at least think that is too bad. I mean...I'd like to believe that at least Angel somehow made it past the final battle here.
And that is why, I sort of hated it...you simply don't know what happened...or just have to accept he was finally defeated...and it only took 60,000 demons, a giant and a dragon to do it. But...it's Angel here...he'd have to find a way through, right? But, with that said...if we don't get to see Angel again...at least we didn't get to see the final second of Angel's life. It was only right, and in that sense...the series got nothing short of a perfect ending.
I guess Angel went on as long as possible. You can only play an immortal for so long before its noticeable you've aged. As for me, I'll stay in denial and hope for a little digital enhancement and maybe just one more hour or two of Angel sometime in the near future.
