Scrooge: A Christmas Carol (2022)
Worth it for the soundtrack
At the end of the day, it's just another version of a Christmas Carol and it's quite hard to retell a story that has been done countless times. This one though is a little different based purely on the soundtrack. The vocals are simply stunning and the songs themselves are perfectly done. I originally put this on as background noise and stopped in my tracks each time there was a song so put it on properly. I'm also now desperate for this version to be put on the stage because I'd be front of that queue, especially with the same cast. I also thought the spirits were well done. Like i said it's hard to come up with an original concept but I do think they managed it with the spirits while keeping to the story.
A Storm for Christmas (2022)
Home for Christmas meets Love Actually
Exactly what you want from a Christmas show. Heartwarming, lots of life lessons and personal growth, love stories (romantic, friendship, family and even a dog) and a ton of emotions. The stories of the characters intertwine and the suspense each developing story line keeps you interested but not in a heavy way so it's easy watching. A few story lines are fairly predictable which for a generic show it might be a downside, for a Christmas show though it works perfectly. Other story lines are a little deeper and make for interesting characters. Perfect show to binge with a massive pile of snacks.
Elvis (2022)
Perfect production and phenomenal performance by Austin Butler
In my opinion, everything that Baz Luhrmann does is genius and this was certainly no exception. It's a complete rollercoaster of emotion and has you gripped. Austin Butler must have put in an exceptional amount of research and hours of commitment to this role. He's beyond incredible and could not have been better cast. One of the best films I've seen in a long time, told from a slightly different angle to typical biopics.
Bluey: Sleepytime (2020)
Perfect rollercoaster of emotions in just 10 minutes
My family are huge fans of Bluey; myself, my partner and our 3 year old daughter - but this episode is next level. It's beautifully put together from the script to the music to the cinematic elements. It deserves an Oscar in my opinion.
We started the episode laughing our heads off and ended it cradling our daughter like a new born with tears streaming down our faces. Even my partner, who very rarely sheds a tear, was an emotional wreck.
Even if you're not a fan of Bluey in general, please give this a watch. I would go as far as to say it's my favourite cartoon episode of all time.
Schitt$ Creek (2015)
One of my favourite shows of all time
Funny, interesting and heartwarming. The growth of the characters is wonderful with you investing and attaching to them more and more each season. Honestly couldn't recommend it more. Be prepared to binge once you start.
Hjem til jul (2019)
If Girls was written as a cheesy Christmas film
Starts cheesy and a bits cutesy but gets going quickly. Plenty of Christmas clichés but lots of adult humour and emotional moments. It's very badly dubbed but you get over that easily enough too. I put it on expecting something from a Christmas film generator and got hooked. Recommended to friends that like Girls, Sex and the Citjavascript:void(0);y and The Holiday etc. Definitely not one to sit down and enjoy with family and probably not for everyone, but if you enjoy a ton of snacks in bed while enjoying a 'girly' drama show, I highly recommend.
Fatal Affair (2020)
Decent cast, terrible script
Nothing new or exciting about this film. Just a generic stalker plot, that's been done a hundred times before and usually a lot better. Such a shame because with the cast, it had real potential.
