Ponniyin Selvan: Part One (2022)
A REALISTIC MASTERPIECE! Special Appeal for Hindi Audience, this movie is a masterpiece! You MUST know about Chola History.
I am not a Tamizh person. I'm a Maharashtrian. Though I couldn't be as holistic as Tamizh people but PS-01 still gave me a feeling of familiarity. I did feel proud, emotional and satisfied after watching PS-01.
By the grace of NCERT, you know much about Mughal Empire but very little or none about the Yadavas, Sangamas, Tuluvas, Marathas, Kakathiyas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas and The Cholas! A mind blowing history which is very dear to the Tamizh people, has been written by Kalki in his famous novel Ponniyin Selvan, has been a dream project for Tamizh film industry. PS01 justifies the wait. Not every epic saga should be Bahubali. Enjoy the realistic way of storytelling with A R Rahman and Mani Ratnam.
Acting by almost all the actors is flawless. It looks like everyone passionately wanted to do their respective role. Big applauds to Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj, Vikram and of course, Aishwarya Rai for portraying the characters so wonderfully as if they appeared themselves. A R Rahman's music and background score is so so so good that you feel the intensity of each scene. The "Saya Sanchare" score was literally meant for the character of Kundavai.
Speaking of Direction, I agree that Mani Ratnam does lack storytelling compared to Rajamouli but I loved it anyway. He does not spoon feed the audience and that's what I like. Camera angles were shaky at times but it's okay because the set designs, cinematography and VFX were very very good. Excellent to be precise. One thing which Mani Ratnam should do in PS 2 is to hire a better action choreographer.
Story is intriguing. The direction has boosted character introductions and character building in a great manner. Especially the character of Nandini, Vanthiyathevan and Kundavai were very beautifully portrayed. I just loved Kundavai. I'm emotionally connected with her now, just like Vanthiyathevan.
The best thing about PS 01 is realism. Nobody is too hero worshiped although the story is centred on Arunmozhi Verman. When you watch it you feel like you are time travelling. The characters are not over dramatic and are very subtle about their goals. Dear Tamizh people, I congratulate you guys cause you got the best screen representation of your most beloved story.
In conclusion, I recommend Hindi audience who did not like the movie to watch it once again. You'll love it. And those who didn't watch it, please do.
The post credit scene gave me an exciting horror feel.
Nilkanth Master (2015)
The average rating here for this movie is misleading.
Yes. The average rating is misleading because only 20 reviews are summed up. You can trust me. I've rated the movie 10/10 for the following reasons.
1) Effortless acting by almost all the actors. Neha Mahajan, Vikram Gokhale, Pooja Sawant and Adinath Kothare literally lived their characters.
2) Brilliant cinematography. The pre independence era is beautifully portrayed.
3) Superb direction. No unnecessary shots. Micro level perfections are achieved in staging and blocking.
4) Wonderful music. Songs carry the storyline together with them. Songs don't let you realise that they're unnecessary. In fact, they were very well needed.
5) Sound mixing, background score and dialogues are also used in a very good manner.
6) Marathi industry lacks these kind of classics. So it's my solemn duty as a Marathi audience to promote such cult classic movies.
Jait Re Jait (1977)
Masterpiece
I always get a special experience while watching cult classic hollywood films. That's because their CGI and VFX etc. Make no mistake, this movie takes you to the whole new (or old perhaps) world without any special effects, just on the basis of mind blowing story, engaging screenplay and splendid acting. I literally lived 2 hours in 1977. And music omg....Please help me take all those sound out of my mind... Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar composed a heaven for ears...Too good songs man... I'm on a musical weed now....! This movie is a must watch for everyone.
