The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023)
Strongest and weakest movie I've seen.
As a film to study in film class it's a masterpiece, but not much else
The set design is good, if it was CG it looked like a real boat.
The soundtrack was wonderful, feeding to the atmosphere of the movie well.
Characters seemed to have personal motivations, Clemmens' motivation tying into a theme of the Romantic era in the movie, while the Captain and the girl character play as foils to each other in the scene where he wants to land the ship in London to bring Toby back.
As a movie, I recommend that professors of cinematography play it for what it does right.
However, it's scriptwriting isn't revolutionary, and the pacing is too long for me or anyone who heard the trailer's inclusion of Smashing Pumpkins.
It had the good things of movies made 30 years ago, but the bad things of today.
Hobo with a Shotgun (2011)
Well executed chaos.
What can I say? It does what it set out to do. A homeless man gets a shotgun and goes on a vigilante spree. The sequence of events is sufficiently violent, especially in regards to it's connection with Tarantino and Rodriguez's Grindhouse, as well as entertaining in the occasional absurdity. The dialogue, while graphic, are incredibly quotable, and the cinematography is incredible for an indie film.
It starts a bit slow and is technically grindhouse trash, so it's not a perfect movie, but it serves a need, and it serves it well.
Criminal Minds: There's No Place Like Home (2011)
A decent episode.
I like the show Criminal minds because I'm fascinated with the stories of the villains, and I enjoy learning in the show why they are who they are. What makes this different is that the villain isn't some complete psychopath who like killing for some God or from being abused. He kills because he wants his brother back. It also helps that he acts like a modern teenage boy, going so far as to woohoo at the end of the episode when getting sucked up into a tornado while holding the corpse composite. It doesn't stand out in any other way, ut I enjoyed this week's villain.
Cabin Fever (2002)
Nothing happens.
I saw the whole movie, and it just shown how nothing happened. Kid bit a man, but that lead nowhere. Girl got her face eaten, but that lead nowhere. Guy who didn't get infected gets shot. Infected guy infects water. Guy who dropped N-bomb is friends with random black people. The black people, by the way, are pretty much just giant stereotypes. Don't worry, they only appear for five seconds just for a joke. In short, people get flesh eating virus, they die. End of story. Everybody go home.
