Warhorse One (2023)
This ain't it.
I was hopeful for this film. I had just come off of watching Guy Richie's The Covenant, and was hoping this could be at least mostly as good. Nope. I'm not a guy that cares about technical things much typically... but the camera quality is just weird. Way too much blur and unfocusing, lots of noise, and lots of artifacts with occasional stuttering. Honestly looks they they filmed on a iPhone and edited it. The contrast is cranked up as well... not enough to be distracting but it is noticeable. And no, I watched it in 4k HDR on an OLED tv so the tv is not the problem. It just felt like I was watching a cheaply produced YouTube premium movie.
Here is the other issue... the audio. I am not joking when I say that this has some of the worst audio I've ever heard in a big budget movie. I could barely hear most of the dialogue with headphones on. I even turned on subtitles, which I hate doing. The score drowned out dialogue frequently, and for example when they were walking by water you could hear the noise of the water dim when they were speaking, as if a cheap laptop mic was used. One minute the audio would sound decent, the next like it was being played from mono speakers in front of me.
Now I won't go into spoilers much at all, but the one thing that bothered me that no one else has mentioned was the young girl. He removed her blue head garb to "be less noticeable" but let her continue walking around in a bright red dress? Come on guys, use some common sense.
I can't complain about the acting, as least the girl didn't act like a spoiled brat, even if her dialogue was clearly 5 years ahead of her actual age.
Final verdict: 4/10. Watch once if you are bored and can't find any other war movies to scratch that itch... expect to be browsing on your phone during chunks of the movie. Definitely not worth buying.
No Escape (2015)
Stupid, oh so stupid characters
Imagine being on a rooftop, with people shooting at you. The only way to escape is to jump to a nearby roof, easily jumpable even a kid could do it. But no, of course they have to act like typical movie kids that are spoiled brats, and scream and cry that they would rather stay on the roof and face death then take a three foot jump across.
A chopper crashes beside them, a guy falls out with an AK-47 and lots of ammo, but nobody thinks to grab it and start shooting the people running at them with knives and clubs instead of screaming and dying? Can we please get some people to use common sense when they make movies like this? Grab the rifle, and start shooting back. It's really not difficult. They are running through a hotel hallway and the girl drops a teddy bear? Oh, yeah, it's more important to scream and cry about that and give away your position over a toy than the fact that you're being chased by gunman. Disgusting.
I cannot complain about Owen Wilson's performance, it's not bad it's just that everyone else acts so, so stupid. By 20 minutes into the movie, I was hoping everyone would die to be honest. I suppose you could enjoy this movie if you turn your brain off, and like entitled spoiled brats as kids.
Time Trap (2017)
Great idea, horrible writing
I'm going to be honest, I enjoyed this movie. The idea is fantastic, and with a good Director this could've been incredible, especially as a series. Unfortunately, the dialogue is hilariously bad. The characters just stand there and gawk when something terrible happens and argue with each other like a bunch of teenagers. In all fairness, they are. The SFX is OK, it's not bad enough to distract from the story. The acting is not terrible, but I repeat once again that the writing is very, very, bad. At least there is no shaky cam. Ultimately, if you are bored and enjoy sci-fi/time travel it's worth a watch. Just don't expect anything like inception. As I'm watching this right now, I am chuckling at the stupidity of the writing. Without spoilers, one of the main characters is in major jeopardy, and the other actors are standing 10 feet away just gawking when they could easily help. Yeah, I'm lowering the score from a 7 to 5. But still watchable.
Silverpoint (2022)
Nah. Interesting story and to be honest I watched the whole thing but...
CRINGE! The children are completely stupid. It's every cliché in the book they're constantly getting separated, and doing stupid stuff. It's so frustrating trying to watch this kind of stuff when the story is good, but the writers clearly have no idea how children actually act. That being said, I did watch the whole thing, and I normally only make it a couple episodes into most shows. Yes it's kind of like dark, except that this is meant for children, not for adults.
Edit.: as I'm writing this review, the one character is being stupider than I can ever even imagine... not giving a hoot about the other people safety In a cliche way... Sigh. Making this two stars instead of three.
Paper Girls: Growing Pains (2022)
Good but flawed
Has a great start and vibe, kind of like stranger things. A few things frustrated me:
The girls all nonchalant about the sky being flashing pink, but scared of a gun? For crying out loud, its set in the 80s. Everyone, especially the country setting this was filmed in, loved guns and would not have been upset for her to have that for defense. So cringe.
Second, the way the shooting stalled every time they had to talk to each other and get emotional. Typical cliche.
Third, they knock out a big bad guy (unrealistic) and don't take his massive cool gun? Stupid. And again, cliche.
But, I'm looking forward to the rest of the season! Still enjoyable.
The Core (2003)
WORST TRASH MOVIE EVER
I honestly cannot believe how bad the cgi, plot , and cringeworthy acting was in this film. If I could turn back time I would NEVER rent this trash BS.
Call of Duty: WWII (2017)
Awful zombies
All right so let's talk about a few things here. The main map on this game is the final reich for zombies, which has been unplayable for three months now because everybody lags out about 10 minutes into the game . I have reported this many times but there has been nothing back from them. Now the last three times I have done the Easter egg just as we were setting up for the Bossfight I have had memory errors and the game has crashed . This is absolutely pathetic and disgusting. Right now zombies is pretty much unplayable. I guess the developers are just vacationing somewhere.
