The Teacher (2022)
Awful
The story of a teacher whose life falls apart after being accused of being sexually inappropriate with a pupil.
The acting is unbelievably bad from the lead. Sheridan Smith plays the troubled teacher and she's really really really painfully bad to watch.
If the character is supposed to illicit some kind of sympathy, that's impossible. The actress is unrelatable in her self pity and positively nauseating.
Aside from the unbelievable plot, the irrational characters and poor dialogue, it's just a poor failed attempt at meaningful drama.
I think it tries to take on some kind of feminist point by contrasting the difference in treatment between the female offender?
Overall give it a miss: poor acting, poor dialogue, unbelievable plot.
The Affair (2014)
Spectacular
It tapers off in the last two seasons. But the first season was truly remarkable. It's the most perfect depiction of subjectivity I have ever seen and I really think everybody should at least watch season 1. I watched it as a youngster and it really changed the way I think.
Titanic: 20 Years Later with James Cameron (2017)
What's the point?
This is vaguely interesting but it's also a supreme waste of time and resources. I understand the appeal of the movie and the historical significance. This is a weird kind of pointless curiosity. I can't help but wonder, what is the point of this exercise? Also the "what if" scenario, it's kind of unclear if it's in relation to the movie or reality.
Windfall (2022)
Bored
Isn't it old? The person of colour always being dispensible?
That is the Hollywood cliche that's the final nail in the coffin of this dead average movie that tries(and fails) to be profound.
The Undoing (2020)
Stop casting kids because of nepotism
The show is average, but that insufferable
child (Noah Jupe) is just awful. Then you look into it and realise that his mummy and daddy are in showbiz. Oh Hollywood.
Replicas (2018)
I want my time back
This could be the worst movie I have ever seen. Nonsensical, illogical, utter rubbish. Lazy writing, lazy acting. It's actually frustratingly stupid.
The Resident (2018)
Over the top
On the upside, finally a medical drama with an Indian character - about time seeing that 39% of doctors in USA are Indian.
The reason for the 3 star rating - it's crude. There isn't a shred of subtlety and I get the sense that it's intended for a dim-witted audience. The plot of every episode is pathetically predictable and the characters are one dimensional, they pretty much spell out who's good and bad and why and how. I'm sure there is in fact a lot of maladministration and unethical behavior in reality, however in this show it's ridiculously exaggerated.
They try to get around the "just another medical drama" by emphasizing the shady side of the medical profession, and this perspective had potential. This, however, is very poorly executed, overly exaggerated and is somewhat patronizing.
If you want mindless entertainment, go for it.
If you don't want to be made to feel like an idiot - give it a miss.
