This was a movie I knew about for quite sometime. I've always wanted to watch it, but I wasn't really in the mood to sit through a two hour movie. Eventually I had the will, and so I started watching it.
I was moved, truly. I've felt alive during this movie, like it was a clear image of what I as well think like. The pain and suffering is something I can relate to so well. Moreover, the loneliness, the out of your place feeling. Man. It was illustrated it so well. I was focussed for two hours, longing for more, it was so compelling.
It all works so well with Naples as backdrop.
Fabietto and I also share the love of football, but this is not the main thing in this movie, not at all. Before, Maradona is acclaimed as a God, but in the latter half of the movie Maradona is seen as his God, his savior. His love and passion for the game, saved his life. After this he couldn't care about his savior anymore. He wanted to fit in, yet to set himself apart. He knew what he wanted, and he did so, his favorite director couldn't impress him.
This first half is a complete contrast compared to the latter half. From smiles, laughs, to a overwhelming sad feeling for me. The next day I was still saddened to what I had seen the evening before. It was a reminder of what life is like for me, something I could so relate to this movie. I don't have many friends. The ones I have, I can't relate to. What does friends mean? The lack of experiences in my life with people, from love, to joy.
Might just be me, but in a weird way, I'd seen myself on screen.
