The third special of this spin off from the animated series My Little Pony, is not exactly what I expected it to be. I hoped for more interaction between Susnet and her former mentor as well as a more intriguing sub plot regarding her and her dilemmas between the human world and the pony one. That is what everyone's expected, but it is not what we received.
Instead we had Sunset having no dilemmas regarding her home, but having anxiety for not knowing when the unpredictable magic could appear, as well as more interaction between Sunset and Starlight with more protagonism for the latter. At first I wasn't too happy with this, but after a second watch I saw how brilliant ALL the conversations Sunset had with Starlight really turned to be.
However there was one minor issue, and this was the lack of build up from the last two specials for the magic that would end up being used in this special, making all the dilemma of Sunset rather come from nowhere.
The overall message and connection that Sunset and Starlight create is both unexpected and delightful. The main plot of the story, feels a little overused, but I loved how the characters acknowledge this in order to prove their point and forgive Juniper Montage for the "attrocities" that she has done.
While I do believe there was a little potential loss in this premise, the way they gave a new spin to Sunsets characters by using the character interactions with Starlight, is more than enough for me to recommend this special to every fan of the show.
