Her Pen Pal (2021)
One of Hallmark's better efforts . . .
I have just read most of the comments on this movie : some people need to shake their heads to try to wake up what is rattling around in their brains : complaints about costumes, windy hair, someone's body type, the time line of the main characters that is suggested in the movie : really ? ! This is NOT a Hollywood production - it's a Hallmark Presentation - get a grip folks . . .
Lets consider the film . . . It was indeed shot in Paris, despite suggestions to the contrary .... the cast is flawed : the 'groom' sticks out like a sore thumb : Hallmark blew it on this one .... Lachlan Nieboer makes a good effort at playing the 'confused' ex boyfriend, Cameron, but his performance is uneven : it feels forced far too often ..... the remaining cast do an admiral job throughout the movie.... I agree that Joshua Sasse's attempt at a French accent leaves much to be desired, (he plays Jacques), but there is no denying the chemistry between himself and Mallory Jensen whose portrayal of Victoria is the principal highlight of this film .... it comes as no surprise that these 2 have previously worked together .... of the many little faults in this movie, the biggest comes near the film's end when Cameron and Victoria have their bench scene ; not only is it far too lengthy, it is thrown together haphazardly .... it feels like the writers needed to do something to change the dynamic of the story line, so, this scene was thrown together .... throughout the presentation, there are many scenes that are poignant, surprising humorous, and offer marvelous insights into how time can change one's life plan almost unknowingly and unexpectedly ..... I am NOT and have never been a fan of the vast majority of Hallmark's 'presentations' ..... however, every now and then I am told that they have produced a piece of work that is surprisingly entertaining : in this instance, I agree - this film is worth watching .
Christmas Getaway (2017)
A Christmas Story with a script worth watching !
Far and away, the best of 2017 - not only does it have actors that mesh wonderfully together, the script is thoughtful and well written .... you'll get the usual expected ending, but the journey is worth watch, for a change !
