Bosch: Legacy (2022)
Still good but not quite as good as the original
It is good to see Bosch back even as a PI. The problem I have with the series is so much featuring Maddie (Madison Lintz). The worst part of the is she is such a terrible actress. All the expressions look forced and she really never makes me believe the part. It takes away from the main plot. If she was a better actress perhaps it would not be so distracting.
Some people who are actors just do not have the talent. Today when there are so many fine actors and actresses, it really stands out when they do not have the talent. When she had a relatively small part, she was passable but not as a main character.
Besides Maddie, the plot is interesting and working with Chandler works well. They always had respect for each other even when on opposite sides.
FUBAR (2023)
Should be renamed Family Feud
I like Arnie and some of the characters. This series tries to be too funny with less than subtle dialog. When you keep using ridiculous dialog over and over then it is not funny.
The characters spend too much time in predicable unfunny fights. Of course, the series violated the laws of physics and introduced tools that do not exist. Also, as usual in these productions, bad guys with machine guns can never hit anyone but this is one of the norms today.
Also, Roo's character was over the top and her dialog ruined the series. Fortune Fiiemster ruined this series.
Could of been great - missed the mark.
The Courier (2019)
A waste of Olga Kurylenko's talent
Obviously this movie was rolled out as a fast action movie without any regards to continuity or realism. It's too bad as Olga Kurylenko is really good in action movies.
This movies suffers from every fault possible in action films today. Unrealistic fight scenes using the old chop and cut view, a small woman overpowering muscled men and etc. It also suffers from what I consider a fault in almost all action movies. Riddling a car with machine gun bullets, blowing out the windows but yet the hero in the car is never harmed - What crap, tired of it. Furthermore, Hollywood's handling of semi-automatic handguns, when on duty or when there is a threat, who waits until they are in front of the treat to cycle their gun to load it. Another Hollywood effect I am tired of.
Hey Hollywood, time for some more realistic movies with some good writing and an interesting plot.
The huge gaps in the continuity when situations are tough, then a cut to another scene where it is over but you never know how.
At the end of the movie, the hospital scene, totally wrong and comes from nowhere with no foundation whatsoever.
Negative (2017)
Boring and predictable
For most of the movie you can watch them driving down the road. It takes up about half the movie then the rest is just the old Hollywood formula with the very predictable action results and ending pretty much a waste of time no real suspense.
The acting is fair but the plot is laborious and dull. By the time they finally got to the safe house you already knew her friend would turn on them; that is how predictable this film is. I would recommend finding something else to watch though finding a good movie is like looking for lost treasure. This movie was so boring I really am having a hard time meeting the minimum number of words required for a review.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
Massively stupid and Massively a waste of money.
This was not a fun movie and it was laced with unnecessary foul language. Only the last 15 minutes was somewhat entertaining. I almost turn it off before I got there. I have no good words for this waste of time.
Tears of the Sun (2003)
An action movie with a message well done!
I think this is a great action movie. It is not your Rambo movie or your super hero movie with crazy action. It is a movie portraying what is actually happening in Africa. It is a movie that the actors and director truly cared about. The actors even attended a 2 week boot camp so they would portray Navy seals accurately and respectfully. I think it is one of Bruce Willis' best performances and it is a movie he cared about. The message of an efficient Seal team that carries it's mission out but also gets emotionally involved with the people who are suffering. I bought this movie!
The Tower (2021)
Among other things, the ending ruined this for me.
It was kind of interesting to a point. I did watch all three episodes but when it was over I was sorry I wasted three hours. Horrible message at the end and it ruined what was only a so-so series.
Outside the Wire (2021)
Entertaining with one huge flaw
I worked in the US Air Force at Intercontinental ballistic missile sites. All underground ICBM sites both Russian and American are hardened against nuclear attack. The drone strike would've been totally ineffective. The only possible way It could've succeeded was putting a missile down the silo hole while the door was open. Sort of like a Star Wars shot. Hollywood often ignores these type of details so that they can create a good story based on a totally in accurate portrayal of some major system. That said, I enjoy the movie but that certainly did take away from it. That was not the only technical issue but it was so glaring that's all I'm going to mention.
All Creatures Great & Small (2020)
Warm, funny, and totally entertaining
I truly enjoyed tis series and I miss them all now that it is over. Wonderful setting and terrific acting. A great story as well.
Update: I thought the new season 3 was pretty poor and boring. I suspect it is the last season. It should be.
Icebreaker (1995)
Great drama based on tru events
Been looking for a good movie to watch and this one filled the bill. Knowing it was based on true events certainly added to the suspense especially since I did not know the story. I have not researched how accurately it portrayed the adventure but the movie certainly held my attention. I had no trouble with the subtitles. I do prefer that movies are made in the correct native language.
Round Planet (2016)
Great Nature Filming Ruined By Absurd Narration!
I do not know who's idea it was to hire a comedian to do nature commentary but he ruined the series and made of himself. I have watched Blue Planet, Our Planet and many more. The intelligent and informative narration in those shows added to the overall greatness. His jokes about global warming maybe being real were ignorant. He ruined the series for me. I had to stop watching. It made me want to go and watch the great Netflix series again - Our Planet.
With professional, informed narration, it would have been a ten.
The Pinkertons (2014)
No redeeming aspects to this show
Poor acting and writing plus ridiculous plots. The show is so intent on banter and being cute that it is ridiculous. Situations are not believable. Too bad, such a great subject with so much history deserved better treatment. Pinkerton Agency was professional and serious and should not have been portrayed in this flippant manner.
If you watched the show, dis it resemble history? See below.
Pinkerton, founded as the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, is a private security guard and detective agency established in the United States by Allan Pinkerton in 1850 and currently a subsidiary of Securitas AB. Pinkerton became famous when he claimed to have foiled a plot to assassinate president-elect Abraham Lincoln, who later hired Pinkerton agents for his personal security during the Civil War. Pinkerton's agents performed services ranging from security guarding to private military contracting work. Pinkerton was the largest private law enforcement organization in the world at the height of its power.
During the labor strikes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, businessmen hired the Pinkerton Agency to infiltrate unions, supply guards, keep strikers and suspected unionists out of factories, and recruit goon squads to intimidate workers. One such confrontation was the Homestead Strike of 1892, in which Pinkerton agents were called in to reinforce the strikebreaking measures of industrialist Henry Clay Frick, acting on behalf of Andrew Carnegie. The ensuing battle between Pinkerton agents and striking workers led to the deaths of seven Pinkerton agents and nine steelworkers. The Pinkertons were also used as guards in coal, iron, and lumber disputes in Illinois, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia as well as the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and the Battle of Blair Mountain in 1921. The organization was pejoratively called the "Pinks" by its opponents.
The company now operates as "Pinkerton Consulting & Investigations, Inc. d.b.a. Pinkerton Corporate Risk Management", a division of the Swedish security company Securitas AB. The former Government Services division, PGS, now operates as Securitas Critical Infrastructure Services, Inc.
