Liebes Kind (2023)
Where are the answers?
At least once an episode i sat on my couch with goosebumbps on my whole body. It really was a thrill to watch. But unfortunately you end up with a lot of questions, plot holes and unsolved mini-mysteries within the big mystery. Such a shame after 5 promising (and 1 disappointing) episodes! Long story short: it just seems there is an episode missing, a shame! A little list with unanswered questions:
- Why was Schwester Ruth killed? Yeah, i can guess, but after here dead there is no attention to it anymore.
- Nobody cared that fraulein Tinky was just a fake cat, after they searched for it for days.
- No one thought it was strange that Hannah suddenly had Fraulein Tinky back.
- Jonathan breaks his new snowball in his room in the psychiatric center he stays. Nobody thinks it is strange there is suddenly water en glass all over his room.
- Why were all the other woman killed?
- How did the perpetrator/kidnapper/killer became the person he was? What is his story?
- Who is the father of Jonathan? Presumably the kidnapper, but it's never mentioned.
- There was a tension between the male cop and the grandmother. They once had an affair in the past. But in the series nothing was done with this information, back story. The result: unnecessary.
- The male cop used a lot of medication. No consequences whatsoever.
- I believe Hannah was suddenly resting in the camper when they arrived at the beach? Why? She was the person that wanted to go there. And when she got to the beach, where did they hid the body of here kidnapper-father?
- Is Hannah strong enough to kill a full grown man with a piece of wood? Remember that she is a 12 year old, living on energy bars and powder milk.
- There a journalists 24/7 in front of the house of the grandparents. Hannah just walks out to a camper past those journalists?
- 6 pc-monitors in a camper... That's one big, steady campervan.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Very poor execution of a fun concept
A combination of parody's creates the feeling of not knowing what to expect, which is fun. But the plot is very, very poor. The answer to the whodunit with a very strange action scène is uncomfortable to watch. And then i haven't talked about the sex scène. It is just not okay. It haunts me in my sleep. I have the feeling that the quality of the whole plot declined after that way to much reveiling, over the top sex scène. So, of you want to see horror? Do not watch. Murder mystery? Do not watch. Comedy? Do not watch. Drama? Do not watch. Action? Do not watch. Thriller? Do not watch. Romance? Do not watch.
Kristen Bell fan? Watch.
Alta mar (2019)
Netflix, Bambu productions, how could you ever made this 3rd season?
After a pause between watching season 1 and 2 we couldn't wait to watch the 3rd season. Season 1 & 2 has overlapping storylines a nice setting and a good plot (7/10). Unfortunately season 3 was a huge dissapointment. It feels rushed, incomplete and there are a lot of unfinished storylines. The story picks up 6 months after the Barbara de Braganza arrives in Brazil. The boat goes on a new journey with all of our protagonists (who survived the first two seasons). Well i am not going to stretch this review out any longer so here is a list of all the strange things in the 3rd season:
Nicolas & Eva:
The writers immediately get rid off Nicolas by putting him on another boat. For that reason we barely see him anymore. It also means that the friendship/love tension between him and Eva is litteraly no longer visible. The new tension between her and secret agent Fabio feels strange, certainly not as good as with Nicolas. Then his sudden appearance at the Barbara de Braganza at the end of the season. (He apparently has some strong sailors rowing faster than a big cruise ship.) The writers did hem dirty by letting him die. Eva was there, but i feel very sad for his wife Chantal.
Carolina:
Having a perfect copycat without anyone immediately noticing is very remarkable and for that reason unbelievable.
Dr. Ayala:
His father was an all-time favorite Gran Hotel character. How could the writers make him a bad person?!
Carmen:
Old friend of tio Pedro. She justifies her actions because she wants to take care of her daughter. She tells dr. Ayala that he promised he would kill her daughter if they wouldn't get the virus. Who is this daughter? Diana was just her fake daughter right? Why should he kill her?
Fernando & Natalia:
They barely play a part in season 3. Unfortunately.
Dimas & Veronica:
Their 'maybe romance" in season 1 & 2 was fun. In season 3 their part is reduced heavily. I don't know why, because their characters were nice and good for the variety of the story.
Capitan Santiago & Pierre:
The Capitan dies without us seeing him die. Why should they do that with a big character. Pierre wants his revenge on Natalia but that doesn't really work out. In the final scenes he wants to clear his soul, but we don't see him doing anything anymore.
Other stuff:
- Why does that warship immediately wants shoot down the whole Barbara the Braganza? Which government sent it? Or was this an action done by Hector and Alex Katona (Ana).
- Why does Nicolas comes up with the yellow flag idea that late? Why only him? Capitan Santiago would have been smart enough to come up with that idea himself. After the attack the warship just takes off and leaves the Barbara de Braganza behind?
Okay, after all the list is quite long and still very incomplete (The nazi gold from (end season 2) and the whole virus and vaccin for example). In total it lookes like there has been a lot of cutting and montage in the 3rd season. It just doesn't do any justice to the first two seasons and the characters. It's really a pity. But for now please excuse me, I think i need some fresh air right now.
La casa de papel (2017)
Brazil vs. Cameroon, Robbers vs. Police
Who do you think will win? Brazil.
Who do you want to win? Cameroon.
The Brazilian players are not very likeable.
The players from Cameroon are not the brightest, but atleast nicer than the Brazilians.
Oh, and the amount of luck for Brazil is reaching a 10 on the scale of laughability.
Is a game like that fun the watch? No. I would advise you to watch a more fun game.
Missie Aarde (2015)
Pure genialiteit
This series is so awkward and recognizable that is Great with a capital letter G.
The space is in space in a spaceship where the astronauts only have each other. And the astronauts are not very good at their job, but almost the whole world has drowned, so they are the best they could find. Only this setting is already perfect for the best jokes.
And some of them are literally doing nothing all day long. For example Harold, he is geologist. But he only does something when they explore a new planet, and you can guess it already; that does not happen to often.
All this together, including every characters weirdness and the brilliant acting makes it one of the best series I have ever watched.
I could say this series is so good, it is un-Dutch.
Can't wait for a potential third season!
Het verlangen (2017)
Weak plot kills the movie
'Het Verlangen' has been announced with some bombastic and thereby the expectations where high. Undoubtly with a cast full of stars in combination with the director of the good reviewed 'Alles is Liefde'. In the often underastimated genre of Dutch comedy it is the art to transcend the simplistic and to create an appealing messaged packed in an amusing coat with typical Dutch humor. Unfortunately the producers did not reach that goal, far from. Until halfway the movie there is a development with a cliché but fun story. However, every random average person could have thought up this story. The art is, after the development of the story, to create a logic continuation to the end of the movie. This is the moment where the Rembrandt distinguishes himself from the local amateur painter, Cristiano Ronaldo from players of Roda JC, and herein should the Master- Director distinguishes himself from the random average person. Unfortunately I have to ascertain that the random average person would have done better. After the story development there is the turning point of the story wherein the plot on the most on-logical and on-realistic way elaborates. The film has some very strange, far-fetched twists which makes it a lot less entertaining to watch. The acting is certainly not bad but I have to admit that there arises a feeling of discomfort and aversion against the characters. I feel sorry to conclude that this film could and should have been a lot more better.
