Just enough story to fill about 45 minutes of drama. Put the rest into a pretty screensaver.
A more fitting ending to drive home the moral lessons would have been Tom walking through his empty home after Ian destroys everything. Leave it at that. No explanation between Lil and Roz. No final pretty scene on the raft. The characters didn't deserve the selfish, happy ending they received.
On the other hand, this may be precisely the expected outcome of a third-millennium story: Utter devastation of relationships gets rewarded because it's all about "me". Ian's "Who cares?" reaction to Hannah's departure and his inability to perceive his own loss were the perfect illustration of today's throw-away families. And all of them choosing the short-sighted, hedonistic - dare I say perverted - relationships they all lack the self-sacrifice, self-discipline, and self-control to reject should be lesson enough against immorality.
But they're so pretty in such a pretty life and place. Could anyone resist?
