Unbelievable! Must be seen to be believed. Rivals the worst dialogue and directing since the late great Ed Wood.
All of the performances are so uniformly awful that it would be unkind to single anyone out. It is even possible that some of them could act with a competent director and a halfway literate script.
I was attracted to this movie because the Salton Sea is a fascinating phenomenon that I don't recall being used in another movie. The lithium angle sounded promising. And the absurdly high rating was misleading.
I suspect the positive ratings and reviews all came from friends of the director, writer, and actors.
It could become a cult favorite like The Room. See it for laughs.

I was quite disappointed because I had read the book, which I recommend instead. The book has some stunning surprises and plot twists -- all of which were eliminated for this movie. As a result, much doesn't make sense.
Important characters -- including the killer -- are undeveloped.
The movie does a fair job of capturing the feeling of oppression, although the paranoia in the book is more intense.
