I've never watched Scooby-Doo
29 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen a lot of reviews placing this show in the ranking of WORST show ever. I personally feel that this is an exaggeration, considering shows like Hoarders and KUWT Kardashians exist, not to mention the various Real Housewives programs. I get Venture Bros vibes from Velma, which never took the source material seriously but rather used it as a framework for their own creation. There a various actors I like providing voices for the characters, which is why I watched it to begin with. It certainly isn't groundbreaking programming, but I think it's too early to tell whether or not the show is as terrible as everyone insists it is.

Liquid Television: The Movie

For anyone old enough to understand that reference is informed enough to understand the meaning behind it. Ok, apparently that review wasn't long enough. 30 years of work and he ended up with an overindulgent, 90 minute TOOL video.

So Good, I Walked Out of the Theater

Warning: Spoilers
Adam McKay, in my opinion, really hit the nail on the head. Just like The Big Short, he laid bare the dysfunction inherent to the system. The main difference being that said system is not the stock market, but rather the day to day reality of our existence and how we interact with the world around us. The only thing I can salvage from this movie is the hope that we're wrong and there may be some catalyzing event that can alter humanity's course.

Not as bad as they'd have you believe.

Sure, it won't win any awards. You probably won't even remember the episode the next morning. But being bite sized, aggressive, and tasteless enough to occasional surprise (if not titillate) the most jaded comedy viewer. That works to it's advantage.

Not a terrible movie.....

Cinematography, Direction, and individual performances are solid. They just failed to coalesce into a truly great movie. But that may be my fault. A less jaded cinephile probably had a blast. Myself, on the other hand, I believe that if you're going to make the destination obvious, at least try and make the journey enjoyable.

Ad Astra is Bad Astra!

A great slow burn of a movie. With an intense opening scene, crashing over you like a wave of stimuli. Each subsequent action scene pales in comparison to it. Like a ripple, an aftershock. The movie is really about space, cinematography, and Brad Pitt's face. With exquisite displays of each in turn.
