Abigail (2024)

Funny,bloody with great performances all round

I love movies that change genre mid way through. From dusk till dawn being a notable example. Abigail is just a fun fun ride. Loved the dynamic between characters . Genre tropes a plenty but if you're looking for buckets of blood with a great pay off you are in for a great night. Stevens,Berrera et al all give what's required to move the story along nicely. The radio silence boys have really put it all out there on screen. Weir is a big star in the making and she puts forward just enough intimidation and humour to make the character both scary and humourous. All in all I really enjoyed it. Best movie I've seen so far this year. 2024 is gonna be great.

The Gray Man (2022)

Bond on Steroids

After finishing The Gray Man I was literally exhausted,not in a bad way of course but so much happens in 2 hours that the adrenaline just kicks in. Kudos to Gosling he channels his Drive jibe but with a little more smugness, I liked him in the role. Evans was a revelation, tache twirling literally, but also a fun bad guy. De armas is always good in these roles and the rest of the ensemble add weight. The globetrotting is on point but the action keeps you on edge. At times even I winced and IV seen em all over the years. 200 million well spent for sure. Just let it wash over you and enjoy the ride.

Halloween Kills (2021)

Michael is more brutal than ever.

Halloween kills is a funny entity. On one side you have Myers as the most insane killer I think he's ever been in any Halloween movie. On the other the film seems like its intentionally trying to up all the other slashers from previous years. Don't get me wrong I love the new incarnation but when did Myers start torturing his victims. He was always a quick killer never this super killer who took on 10 people without breaking a sweat. Overall an enjoyable night out and it sets everything up for the final confrontation next year. Personally I can't wait.

No Time to Die (2021)

OHMSS crossed with Avengers Endgame.

I love Bond, every incarnation pretty much all the movies and this one was no exception. A great send off for Craig. I know all these people are gonna say "why did they do that". But it all makes sense really. Bond needed a shake up and now they can. The action left its mark, Malek could have been used more, but on the whole a thoroughly enjoying experience. No spoilers from me but all I can say is "we have all the time in the world".

The Suicide Squad (2021)

That's more like it.

Saw this last night. It's everything I wanted from a DC movie. Bloody,brash and totally insane. Loved the new members especially King Shark and Polka Dot Man. Sit back enjoy the ride and expect to be entertained. Oh one last note "Nom Nom" Go see it you won't be disappointed.

Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)

Just really enjoyed it.

I always felt the original movie was rushed. Never enjoyed it the same way as the other origin stories. The new cut spends its time setting up the story with a lot more care and precision. Couple of goose bump inducing moments, thank you Snyder. 4hrs in a long ride but never felt too much. I have faith now that DC can deliver the goods.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (2020)

Not as good as the original, but still worth watching.

The original is still one of the funniest movies of the last 15 years. This one is different, more of a movie than a documentary. Borat is, still that loveable but non pc buffoon. The story between father and daughter is cringy but also heartwarming. Maria Buklova is a defo star in the making. Good but not great like the first.

Extraction (2020)

Hemsworth the god of Dhaka.

Extraction does exactly what you should expect. Hand held camera shots, bone shuddering fistfights, thousands of rounds fired. It was refreshing to see an action movie set in Asia instead of South America. Hemsworth delivers the obligatory haunted hard man with verve and style, always liked him. Enjoy the action and suspense during lock down.

Greater than the Godfather

Pacino has never been cooler than he was here. For me it's my favourite gangster movie, topping Godfather and Good fellas. De palma was at his peak and the camera just loves the 70's vibe in every shot. Tell me the scene with Pacino in the toilet waiting to be killed is not one of the greatest scenes of all time. Movie magic and also such a sad ending. Timeless cinema and rewatched every once in a while. Its still amazing and never got the recognition it deserved.

Joker (I) (2019)

At last something thought provoking.

There's no chance I can sum this movie up fully here. All I can say is that in over 30 years of moviegoing the experience of watching this was so different than what has come before. It actually makes you think, its utterly disturbing but incredibly compelling. Phoenix is sensational but unflashy in a way I never felt a performance could be. See it break it down into its parts and then try and reconstruct it. Amazed and confused at the same time but my god what an experience.

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Emotional but bit messy.

So it all ends. I have loved most of the MCU, some have been too predictable but I awaited after IW to see how it would all pan out. Firstly some of my favourite characters are a joke. Please don't dumb Thor or Banner/Hulk down, not necessary. Great starting scene, then slow dramatic next 1.5 hours. It builds to the time travel reversing all section with too many plot holes. We've all seen other time reversing movies who have done it so much better. The last hour is spectacular, great to see all the gang back but it feels rushed. Emotion runs high and defo not a kids film in my eyes. Cap is great Stark is amazing but everyone else feels like there just there. What I loved was the beauty of the final scenes, wonderful score and saying goodbye to old friends. Overall wanted more, but even far from perfect is still pretty good.

The Punisher: Roadhouse Blues (2019) Season 2, Episode 1

Franks back and hitting hard.

Well it starts again. Castles life always revolves around violence, and how episode 1 puts him in the fight is both shocking and riveting. Bernthal portrays another side to Frank that maybe he's starting to get his life together. But a soldier always finds war in the end. Amazing fight scenes and some touching moments. Bingeworthy as always. Think its gonna get messy as we go along. What a start.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Visually stunning. The best Spidey so far.

Miles Morales might just be my favourite Marvel character. This new take switches up so many things but its essence continues the things that we know and love about our hero. Spideykid as my daughter as now named him is just so damn cool. Just go see it and be amazed at the knowing nods and winks to previous movies. Action,humour and a heartfelt cameo from the king of Marvel make this for me one of the greatest achievements in animation for many years.

Halloween (I) (2018)

Violent but no scares.

Waited to see how the makers were gonna dismiss all the other sequels. What we get is a series of violent aftermath scenes of Myers victims. 1 tense scene in the whole movie, but compared to the original a pale imitation. Loved Jamie-lee's performance though. Quality actress and what asuper gran.

Terrifier (2016)

Not a classic slasher but worth youre time.

In the classic tradition of Halloween and theFriday movies, Terrifier is actually a pretty entertaining slasher. Great work from the clown guy. Hot gorls who actually can act. Gore effects were well done and suspenseful. Its low budget but hey iv seen a lot worse.
