Bordertown (2016)
4/10
I wanted to like this show. I really, really did.
29 May 2017
Bordertown has a lot going for it. Created by Family Guy writer Mark Hentemann, executive-produced by Seth MacFarlane, and starring Hank Azaria and Alex Borstein, it should have been hit right out of the park. I love Hank Azaria, and have been a fan of Alex Borstein since the early days of MadTV, and admittedly, they both shine here, but the show is not the sum of its parts. I'll spare you repetition. Let's just say all the common points of all the bad reviews are spot-on. I'm not even one of those easily offended types, and I still found myself thinking some of the jokes were mean just for the sake of being mean. I watched the entire first season hoping it would hit its stride and settle into a decent show. It never did. To me, it seemed like it was written by juvenile delinquents under the supervision of their "cool" uncle that can totally get them beer. I'm not saying avoid Bordertown. Just don't set your expectations very high.

Pacific Heat (2016–2017)
8/10
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
16 December 2016
It's really easy to dismiss Pacific Heat as an Archer clone. Heck, the Message Boards right here say as much. And I thought I read somewhere where someone dismissed it without even finishing the pilot episode. The bottom line is, yes Pacific Heat is very Archer- ish, although nowhere as good. That said, as the old adage goes, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".

If one were to take the time and watch the whole season, Pacific Heat does finally hit its stride about mid-season. I will admit at first it was a little jarring, with its not-quite Archer/Frisky Dingo animation, its flat voice acting, and its dimwitted characters. But somewhere mid-season I found myself falling for these quirks, and found I really liked this show. And personally I feel we need more cartoons geared for us kids who never grew up. Reviews and ratings hold power over these shows, and personally I'd hate for this show to be canceled because no-one took the time to let this show grow on them.

I won't say much about the show itself. But I will say give it a chance. You may find yourself pleasantly surprised.
