Substation (2011)
Brilliantly dark and atmospheric
I've been meaning to write this review for ages. I'm not going to give anything away but merely watch this film if you want to see something, new, original and daring. For too long Scottish cinema has lacked a sense of individuality and style and I think Mr Williamson perfectly captures the dark beauty of Glasgow to a tee through striking visuals, a brilliant pulasting score and a complex plot that twists and weaves its' way into your consciousness.
It's akin to early Lynch/Cronenberg in that it is daring, unique and challenging. The best cinema is and I look forward to following this talented young director's career. 10/10....
Nightclubbing (2009)
Meh
Utterly utterly pointless film. The film was well shot, well acted in parts but incredibly pointless. It seemed like the makers were just messing around with Pro Tools' sound effects the whole time. Absolutely nothing of interest happens in this film at all. Basically it seems that there are 2 kids walking around the streets trying to get to a nightclub when it seems the whole time like they are coming home from the club. It's sheer dull and pointlessness inspired me to write this review. It's not different, artistic, it just lacks a story, character and anything remotely of note to the viewer. Filmbase needs to have a look at what it funds, seriously.
Swimfan (2002)
Absolute utter toss
One of, if not the worst film I have ever seen in my life! The acting (side for the main guy who is passable!) is utterly atrocious and the direction flat and insipid! Whoever thought the world needed a teenage Fatal Attraction should be shot fifteen times in the head! Avoid this like the plague; though it is one of those movies perhaps that is so bad its good! Yeuch The whole plot is ridiculous, the characters are not explained enough and the supposed "scares" aren't even close to Scooby Doo levels of terror! The music belongs in some half-assed college movie about lost/teenage love and the direction really is pathetic! Once again-yeuch!
