Not sure how people are giving this anything over 5/10. Despite having heavy weights like Brosnan, Mirren,Hardy and Considine the plot leaves a lot to be desired. The acting in some parts is terrible and you don't have any association with any of the characters. I guess with Ritchie directing you have to have your usual, well ard cockerneys and ya big bosses but the way Ritchie approaches it seems tired. If you want to see how it should be done then watch This City is ours or Gangs of London. Both have Gangsters (obvs) but at least you feel for the characters. There's a proper story line, not just Waring crime families going at eachother and I don't think there are going to be any plot twists in this. Shame as The Gentleman (film) was brilliant.

If Bread and Sexy Beast had a baby together!

This is the best show on Tele in a long time. Absolutely brilliant acting from all involved, even the typical Scouser were brilliant. Anti heros all over the place and some jaw dropping, unexpected twists. The writer deserves a Bafta for this. There must be a season 2 as it would be a crime if they didn't! If you watch anything this weekend then watch this. Fantastic! Ps. Sean Bean with his Yorkshire accent is superb! Typical Sean performance and those supporting him were outstanding. Where this came from I've no idea but they need to make more television like this. Worth the licence fee alone.
Wolf Man
(2025)
Disappointing!

I like to think of myself as a pretty good assessor of Werewolf films or films that portray the 'killer' as non human, possibly a wolf. American Werewolf in London being the go to yard stick. This film sits somewhere in the top 30 of WW films but nowhere near some of the more recent efforts. As someone has already said it's more akin to Jeff Goldblums 'The Fly' than your regular WW film. Nowhere near enough scares, blood or gore. The characters transition to the beast just made me think 'get on with it'. The acting is good and the story line is okay. This in its own right isn't a bad film but I feel the Director was trying too hard to get away from the old, cliched WW films and in doing so lost some of the bits that make WW films so good. Snarling, growling, sharp teeth, wolf eyes, murderous blood lust, super strength, ripping bodies apart in a serial killer way. There is too little of this in this film. More recent efforts like Viking Wolf and The Wolf of snow hollow are far better and got less attention. Shame.
Missing You

Boring and disappointing

This looks like it was thrown together over Christmas while HC was on the sherry. I bet Michelle Keegan is laughing her head off at how rubbish this is. OTT plot that is all over the place and acting straight off of Channel 5 daytime TV. HC needs to go back to the drawing board. It's all too predictable. Previous HC thrillers have at least been worth sticking with but I was throwing in the towel after episode
2. It didn't get any better as it went on. Ludicrous plot change and acting increases in every episode. The only good thing about it is Lenny Henry is hardly in it thank god. Check out Black Doves instead.
The Fog
(1980)
An Absolute Clasic
19 August 2023
One of the go to films that every horror fan needs to see. Along with "The Thing" carpenter brings horror and suspense crashing together alongside a story that carries your through the whole film. Despite being an 80s film this still had the story line and the sense of horror that is missing from most films of today. The 80s James Wan perhaps but this film grips you from the very start. The lonely female DJ with her husky, whispering voice adds to the tension. The fog gives the film the old Jack the ripper feel with knife wielding killers coming out of the thick smoke. Couple all this with scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis and what's not to love! An absolute classic.
Dune: Part One

Anyone under 9/10 is clueless.

Wow. A Star Wars/Matrix for the 2020s. Beautifully shot, fantastic score, amazing acting. Epic scenes in every segment. DV directs this film like a saga that deserves a series like that of the Star Wars saga. One of the best films of our generation. Can't wait for the follow up. I know CGI is all the take but bring it on if it ends up looking like this. I'm a massive Fincher fan but this sets the bar way above any recent Sci-fi epic. I'm not sure why it took me so long to watch it but it was with the wait. I'm also not sure why don't of the reviews on here are negative. They are either Fincher fanboys and can't see beyond that or really don't know first class film making when they see it. Anyway ignore them. This film is amazing.
