Malena Pichot: Estupidez compleja (2018)
This isn't a comedy special, it's a Twitter rant.
This show reads like someone typed #feminist on Twitter and then just shouted every post she saw. This is't remotely funny. She just preaches to her own choir and bullies the audience into pity applause. You get comedians like Bill Burr that can be blunt without being mean spirited like Pichot is here.
It's no wonder that women are having a hard time being taken seriously in comedy when this is what's being touted as good enough to get a special. If you want a great female stand-up special from Netflix I recommend Chelsea Peretti if you actually want to laugh. If you want to become a militant misandrist who's last concern is comedy, the Malena Pichot is for you.
Z Nation (2014)
A Fresh Offering to the Zombie genre
Z Nation is a fantastic series. It's really offering something fresh to the zombie genre. Every location is either a new location, new zombie type or new human villain. The show has global stakes, well defined characters and an actual endgame to the story. Z Nation doesn't suffer from what plagues other TV shows of the genre right now - painful, plodding pacing, inconsistently written characters and bland locations.
There's something special about Z Nation in the way you never know what to expect from episode to episode. While TWD has been spinning it's wheels and continuing to repeat the same story beats with similar characters and the same setting over and over Z Nation always stays fresh. This show really gets the most out of it's budget. Due to a smaller budget, it seems Z Nation is much more willing to take risks in it's story telling.
As TWD continues to decline in quality, Z Nation amps up the stakes and scale of it's story with each season.
