Skinamarink (2022)
Stick it in your eye
This experimental film worked a charm for surfacing my subconscious childhood trauma of being raised in front of the TV. It's a fever dream in a film. Given the right atmosphere, it boils back the memories of neglect and fear of the unknown from the first person perspective of yourself as a kid in front of insanity inducing cartoons. While there is plenty of room to discriminate for it's atypical theme and nature, if given the right relaxing environment and ability to go into a trance, it sticks with you for a long time. It would be tough to recommend it to anyone, but don't pass it up if this sounds interesting.
The 9/11 Commission Report (2006)
Technical flaws ruin the whole thing.
When you see the cover of this DVD it would appear to be a big time picture, but looks can be deceiving. Here are some gripes I had about this film:
1) The video quality appears to be something from an entry level consumer video camera.
2) Shots taken on the streets have massive camera bobbing and make you feel sick and unable to focus.
3)The audio almost never syncs with the video. In fact sometimes it's a full second off.
4) The volume must often be turned way up to hear certain scenes.
5) The actors dialog always seems muffled.
6) There are no subtitles to understand extremely muffled scenes which makes it hard to follow the plot.
7) Even shots taken from a stationary point have an unsteady camera view. They never bothered buying a tripod I suppose.
As for the quality of the story... I really can't give that an honest opinion because I simply couldn't catch it all due to the above technical flaws. I really wish it had subtitles it would be possible to follow.
All-in-all: Rent something else. This is too difficult to watch. The parts you can actually hear seem interesting, but you just can't follow most of it without subtitles --which aren't present.
Basic Instinct 2 (2006)
Horrible, terrible, and boring
There really isn't much to say about this movie except you'll be waiting for it to end after the first scene. The only thing that keeps your attention is Sharon Stone's hot 50 year old body --which you don't get to see until the final few scenes. The movie ends so ridiculously that you wish you hadn't watched it to begin with. This movie is about as good as the first which doesn't say much. It's nothing to be remembered except for a 50 year old's body who looks like she's 30. Need plastic surgery or a cool haircut? Rent this movie. Want to watch a good movie? Don't rent this. It's a waste of 4 bucks and even a bigger waste if you buy it.
Three 6 Mafia: Choices - The Movie (2001)
Low budget, slow, and free
This is the DVD movie that comes from the Choices II soundtrack. While Three 6 Mafia are considered gods in Memphis for their music, they fall short in the full length film. Staring all the members of Hypnotize Minds (the record label owned by Three 6 Mafia) really lets you see your local legends in a whole new spotlight. Lil Wyte makes his film debut here as well. The reason I only give this move 7 stars is because of the major flaws in the production of this movie. 1) The plot is extremely hard to follow due to the constant muttering of the "actors". 2) The sets are very poorly done. 3) Special lighting is non existent.
There are positive aspects of this movie... Well at least one, you guessed it: the soundtrack, as it is the choices II album.
Its worth wasting a couple stoned hours on, but don't expect anything or you'll turn it off after the first scene.
