T2 is one of my fave movies of all time.
This movie offers an alternatte timeline to sequel T2.
Now T2 is horriblly riddled with movie and timeline mistakes, however; the execution of the movie, and the underlying message of it, is beautifully presented.
I wont get into all of that here, but let's pick on just this one thing...
In T2 the Cyberdyne model 101, that protects John Connor, is destroyed at the end.
If Skynet would not become aware, due to the actions of our protagonists in T2, then this destruction, should not be necessary.
Model 101 should simply have disappeared at the end, when all was safe, since the future he came from would never be....
Right??
However: the chosen T2 ending allowed for T3 to be made and subsequently Salvation and Genisys.
Since the Terminator did not disappear in T2, a Skynet- incident can still happen.
In Dark Fate, Skynet never happened. Legion happened.
So how did Cyberdyne model 101 come to exist at all, in this rendition of a T2 sequel?
Cyberdyne created Skynet, but in Dark Fate it is hinted that someone else created Legion...
As kong as a model 101 is presented, it would mean that some AI had the exact same idea as Skynet. And the exact same data etc...
I didn't mind exploring a different timeline, but I'd have liked it to be more consistent and convincing.
This story was a bit anemic, and as mentioned, felt non- conformed within it's time continuum...
I enjoyed all the action scenes and the special effects, especially the young Sarah and John Connor and a young Arnie- Terminator.
Really well done.
I saw someone commenting that it was copying the T2 storyline, like SW: TFA did.
I agree.
But I don't object.
Someone commented on the Rev-Terminator as being to expressive, giving funny quips or being to talkative/ argumentative.
I don't mind.
All Terminators are made to be able to imitate and infiltrate, so it can get close to its target.
He was one of the more advanced, so that would not be too out there, for me.
(In T3 the T-X is visibly, and audibly (she draws her breath) stunned when it realises it has found the blood of John Connor, its primary target, while hunting Kate Brewster, a secondary target atm.
A machine of that calibre should not be capable of a human emotion like getting stunned or even drawing a sharp breath to illustrate its «thoughts».
However, this does add to its possibilities for imitating a human well.)
I do hope James Cameron will get back to writing another story about the Terminators, to correct mistakes in the previous ones.
They are possible to correct, so get crackin', JC!!
I give this one a three star rating, cause it's so far my least fave, of the Terminator franchise that I really love.
I'll re-watch just to see what I might have missed.
Figuring out the makers of Legion will be a priority.
