Trader Horn (1973)
Mediocre movie
Simply put this is a watered down version of King Solomon's Mines. It's contrived and mind numbing but it's redeeming quality is it's short!
Beatriz at Dinner (2017)
Potentially good movie that lacked character development
This review has SPOILERS! Let's just forget the obvious politics that will get people all hot and bothered. Politics are telegraphed punches in this movie. I love Salma Hayak. I think John Lithgow is a very good actor. This movie lacked enough material to make it a good movie. Instead of being cleverly written and showing a confrontation between the two antagonists, it stereotyped two people. It gave in before trying. The actors tried! The script lacked a lot. It had potential elements to succeed. I wish they would have had Salma's character internalize dialogue and the same with Lithgow's character to build up the suspense. It had awkward squirmy moments that could have been more delicious if built up better. Both people believed what they did in their lives. I feel like the end scene of her running into the ocean was the writer of the script saying he couldn't handle writing anymore. Too bad because this could have been a really good movie.
