Angel De Mi Vida (2021)
No limits for love
The stories of the population with disabilities always walk on the edge of melodrama. It is unavoidable. Whether they are stories of overcoming, gazes from a misunderstood group, or an atmosphere of fairness, there is always that cloying sweetness that clouds the power of their drama.
On this occasion, the effort of a special child to show his athlete father that he can have the same achievements and be a great champion, focuses the limitation on his father, who is not capable of accepting him in his condition. Basically a disability to love.
Junior Polo's acting effort deserves attention, as he embodies a boy with a cognitive disability. The story invites us to overcome family barriers, a discourse of acceptance and the possibility of a harmonious world between our human imperfections. A pity that its ending does not provide so much credibility.
La virgen y el fotógrafo (1982)
Holy lust
Ways and forms of Valle del Cauca (Colombia) under the eye of camera. A fresh description of a town with its typical inhabitants, who in a choral way surround the story of a sacrilege committed with a sacred image of the Virgin.
Franky Linero has the seductive power, he is the perfect role for that liberal and promiscuous photographer who helps to solve the mystery of holy outrage. The rest of the characters are garnishes without much notoriety, which give the town a picturesque air.
An entertaining film for a Sunday, which moves between humor, some criticism and Valluno folklore, but which does not fully capture because its story is not powerful and its choral style is not homogeneous and creates distraction, without a defined focus.
Terminal (2000)
Overwhelming heartbreak
The slow and agonizing awakening of a difficult period of lack of love for a man is the author's exercise that Jorge Echeverri dared to explore from a theatrical position, some experimental.
Fabio Rubiano - its protagonist - self-destructs, questions himself, blames himself and can only redeem himself through his own catharsis.
Although film is looking for a different and difficult-to-access aesthetic proposal, his artistic pose goes too far and ends up distorting history. There is acceptable photography work and Rubiano delves into his theatrical training, but the film would have worked better as a short film. So much anger locked up in an hour and a half is overwhelming, although surely Echeverri wanted to sink his finger into that issue so insistently until he mortified the viewer with a feeling similar to loving contempt.

Time for rock and roll
The rock and roll scene in Bogotá is the main setting for this short film, with great sounds, city trips and a hectic night trying to publish an LP in a hurry.
Mario Duarte is the right character, an urban rocker ready to succeed in a scene dominated by popular music. But the story is locked in the anxious adventure of a night of excess and passion and never transcends. In the end, rock is dead but it seems to freeze in the eternity of a song.

Laughs for the Passion
The theatrical representation of Jesus Christ Calvary in a town in Colombian Cauca uncovers traditional laughter and an aroma of satire to the religious traditions of Holy Week. To the story is added a symbolic death and resurrection of a girl who seeks to be cured through religious or political favors, where neither the divine nor the human works.
De Vasten directs this rugged Stations of the Cross with rural mischief, which manages to elicit a few laughs and admire some camera shots, as well as firing subtle darts at the inefficiency of the mayors or the rigidity of the priests. It is an interesting exercise in provincial cinema, with its virtues in will and its defects in production and the occasional dysfunctional natural actor, with a religious scene full of old-fashioned prejudices that breaks up between village jokes and more relaxed visions of the holy week.
El séptimo cielo (1999)
There's no heaven
An immigrant cannot find himself in the monstrosity that New York offers. No job, no money, no love. A confused man who cannot find his way on the American platform. Juan Fischer seeks to reflect the life of the Latino without stability in the United States, but his protagonist never projects empathy, his goals are clouded and his frustrated love is just an excuse to give his existence some meaning.
Without such a clear purpose and marked by rugged situations, the film tries to win an immigrant marathon of good impressions, but the story becomes an inconsistent patchwork redemption. An incomplete anecdote of the life of the illegal Colombian in a diffuse American dream, drenched in drink and Spanglish.
