Wo de ma ji 4 ge gui (2023)
A very well done remake 👍🏼
I know that this Taiwanese movie is a remake from South Korean movie of the same name, but it was done very well indeed. Everyone did a superb job in this film. There were some adjustments from the original version, but in this one, everything made sense and the plot lines ran smoothly. Without giving away spoilers for those who haven't seen this movie or the original yet, this version is so heartwarming. I highly recommend this movie.
There's nothing wrong with remaking movies as long as the end product is this good.
However, there is another remake version made by Indonesian film, but I feel that it lacks many touching elements despite it was almost a carbon copy scene by scene from the original.
Persuasion (2007)
My high hopes for this adaptation had been let down.
I like Sally Hawkins. She was so wonderful in "The Shape of Water." Unfortunately, this Jane Austen's adaptation hit the wrong notes. It was an okay film, but did no justice to Jane Austen's fan. One of the most painful thing to see in this this version of Ann Elliot, who's the only person in this film with greasy hair that seemed to have never been washed through the entire movie, running a marathon around town after a guy like a mad lady...in Victorian Age? Really?
For a better adaptation, please try the 1995 BBC version with Amanda Root as Anne Elliot and Ciarán Hinds as Captain Frederick Wentworth. It's on YouTube now.
