  • Excellent

Northern lights is a heartfelt success from start to finish. From its first few moments, the film draws us in, captivates us and immediately makes a connection with the audience being a more down to earth drama which we can all in some way relate to.

The film, set in North England, follows Emma and her friend Rob during the time of their GCSE exams and deals with issues such as stress, anxiety, friendship and loss.

The film is entertaining, giving us time to connect with the characters. We are allowed to follow them through happiness and heartbreak. The film provides, natural feeling, moments of comedy and tragedy that amplify the tone of the film and bring the audience in closer without it feeling forced on us.

The acting is brilliant from start to finish. Each character is portrayed on screen very well in a way that it makes them likable and relatable. Our main characters, Emma, played by Katie Quinn, and Rob, played by Rhys Cadman portray their characters in an almost perfect way displaying the true chemistry of on screen friendship.

The visuals of the film are stunning from the get go. We are treated to some beautiful cinematography and lighting that adds to the tone of the film in a way that really captivates the audience. The editing too is done superbly, allowing the film to flow and keep the audience interested but also allows time for the more heartfelt and happy moments coupled with the sad times without it feeling pushed on us.

In summary, it is in my opinion that this film is a great success and director and writer Nicholas Connor has created a film that sticks with us. The blend of great acting, gorgeous visuals and a down to earth plot really elevates the film in a great way and makes it distinct. I would like to recommend that if you haven't seen the film already that you really do consider watching it as it really is worth it.
