The Young Pope (2016)
What a Disappointment!
I was looking forward to watching this series, particularly after reading may positive reviews. It was a complete let down. It is a classic case of style over matter! Yes, the technical fluency of the film makers is evident but this talent is completely wasted on trying to shock the audience instead of telling a compelling story. I could not help thinking that the makers were trying to emulate the style of the late work of Federico Fellini, without providing the humanity and poignancy of this great Italian master. I did not appreciate long stretches of conversations in English, without any subtitles. I ended up turning the English sub-titles on but the text was not translated. The creators should have noted that the knowledge of English and Italian are required. Jude Law seemed completely wasted here. I did not last long enough to see Diane Keaton. I complete do not agree with another review that compares this failure of a movie with a phenomenal , witty, brilliant, skeptical, and infinitely satisfying House of Cards. I consider viewing a portion of this movie a complete waste of my time. Zero (0) rating from me.
Naked and Afraid XL (2015)
An Intriguing Psichological Drama!
I loved this show more that the Naked and Afraid; in addition, to the hardships of survival in the harshest physical condition, there was also an even bigger challenge of survival in a larger group setting. The show became an intriguing journey of human feelings, emotions, morals. In some cases, the outcomes were unexpected. I particularly enjoyed the final show re-union show. It was shocking to see that the group had not learned any additional human skills. I felt sorry for the 2 outcasts. The individuals that treated them in a most horrible way possible, had no remorse and showed no grownup maturity to learn from the experiences. It was truly horrifying.
