Not what I was expecting to see but pleasantly delighted
25 May 2022
Yes, the story was slightly cliché, but the animation was totally worth it and made the story seem worth giving it a perfect score although I would have to say this is the second best episode of the season. Seeing the choices that these characters have to make and what is driving them, whether that's their own fear, or the huge monster at the end of the episode, that's what makes the story worth it.

He changed his mind!
25 May 2022
I really enjoyed watching this one because the farmer ends up having a change of mind. The tech was cool, the rats were awesome. There were some really bloody scenes which were fun to watch. What more can you ask for?

Just not enough background
25 May 2022
They really tried to be creative with this one but I think it just fell flat for a short story like this. There needed to be much more background which means that this could have easily been a full-length film or a full-length 45 minute episode.

Mindless
20 May 2022
I guess you've got to throw some mindless action into some of the episodes. The action was good, but the story and animation were average. It kind of reminded me of some old GI Joe episodes from the 80's and 90's but with bad language and lots of blood.

Wanted more, close-ups

I thought the style of the filming was unique, yet I couldn't quite get the grasp of it. Luckily the episode was only 7 minutes long. You have to watch the end! It makes it worthwhile.

Beautiful Anime, Interesting Story
20 May 2022
Sometime in the future Humanity travels to Io to explore, and what do we discover there? I really love this animation and the time that they put into the story. Even though the episode is only 17 minutes long they packed a lot of storyline and character development. Job well done!

Truth be told
20 May 2022
A bit of a low-key first episode, but these robots have been in every single season so far so I was very happy to see them again. Truth be told, they tell the truth about what could happen to humanity if we do not change our ways.

Brilliant Animation, brilliant story
20 May 2022
I always look forward to Love, Death & Robots and this second episode is brilliant. I'm glad that it was a bit longer than the first one at 21 minutes which gives just enough time to build up the story to a climax. I could watch this type of stuff everyday!

Episodes Building From One to the Next
23 January 2022
I really love how this show is building from one episode to the next and Time Amok sure did have a lot of character development as well as plot development.

The episode reminds me quite a bit of some of the classic Star Trek time travel/anomaly episodes or Voyager episodes yet actually has a whole lot more depth than any of the other previous episodes similar to this one.

Each of the characters are truly growing on me and I feel that as their reasoning behind taking the ship in the first place is very valid even though they are not part of Starfleet. I feel like this is one of the messages teaching the children watching the show that no matter what sort of situation you get put in, if you're using values that are good then good will come to you.

Positive Episode Momentum
24 December 2021
Although season 4 of Discovery has been the worst season of Discovery so far, I felt that episode 6 was much better than the rest of the episodes in this season. It had elements of mystery when heading into the rift left by the DMA and definitely was not a filler episode as it was mainly focused on the main problem of this season, the DMA.

I personally didn't mind the character development of this episode especially with the focus on Zora discovering emotions. It is a bit cheesy but I feel that it adds a bit more character to the show because it sorely needs it as the only character that I feel any connection to is Saru and maybe Book and Stamets.

The fact that Good ol' Jonathan Frakes directed this episode was a plus too because usually he hits it spot on. Let's see if this episode carries positive momentum into the next ones.

Like always, Discovery is trying to do too much
18 November 2021
Every episode is predictable. This one does have some moral aspect to accept that sometimes, no matter how hard we try, there are some things that are unavoidable. I think this series would be better if the writers narrowed their focus on one thing rather than many. In this episode you've got the establishment of the Starfleet Academy, Book going home, the new president, and the mysterious anomaly among other small details. It's just too much for the audience to take in.

No wonder Stephen King loved it!
10 November 2021
It's got that Stephen King vibe. You'll feel it when you watch it. No wonder Stephen King gave his thumbs up to this movie on Twitter after watching it at a pre-screening. If you love paranormal time travel movies along with crime thriller and a bit of phycological aspects that will play with your mind then you'll love Last Night in Soho.

The acting wasn't perfect, and some of the scenes were unneeded in the middle of the film, but overall, by the end, almost everything will be explained and you'll leave the theater (or turn off your TV/phone) thinking, 'I might just watch this again'. It will definitely be playing on my TV in the future. I hope it will on yours too.

Great Introduction to A New Kind of Star Trek
28 October 2021
The first episode of Star Trek: Prodigy did a great job of introducing the new characters and an intriguing storyline with a few mentions of Starfleet by the bad guy named Diviner. You get a chance to see some familiar races from the Delta Quadrant and the first appearance of Hologram Janeway. The animation is stunning as well.

The only thing I could say was a bit disappointing is that I tried watching this with my 5 year old daughter, but the story and dialogue were a little too difficult for her to grasp. I suppose it would be better suited to preteens and long standing fans of Star Trek. I'm looking forward to what the next episodes have in store.

This review will be updated as the series moves along. I just wanted to get this solid review up to counteract the negative reviews.

Perfect father daughter movie time
27 August 2021
I watched this with my 5 year old daughter last night. It was a perfect movie for us because we both love music and ended up dancing to most of the songs.

Although the storyline is average, the characters were lively. We loved how Vivo's character interacted with his human co-stars even though they could not understand what he was saying. However, the audience watching and the other animal characters Vivo came across in the movie were able to understand Vivo's dialogue. The interactions between Vivo and Gabi were also touching as they resembled the interactions Vivo had with his elderly friend Andres.

I would say if you have about 2 hours to spare with your family, Vivo is worthy of your time.

Great World Building
2 October 2019
Brad Pitt's eyes! They show so much emotion although his face does not. The thing that I liked most about this movie was the World building. Mining companies, and even civilians living on the moon. Scientists exploring space in our solar system. Stationed around Neptune, Project Lima's mission purpose is to discover life in the universe.

Forewarning this is not an action movie. It's a dive into the mentality of an astronaut son (Brad Pitt) struggling to come to terms with his father's (Tommy Lee Jones) decisions to leave his family behind to go on the mission for Project Lima. After 27 years of believing that his father died during his mission, a sudden emergence of electrical disturbances killing 43,000 people on earth links to Project Lima.

Emotions from lost ties with his father drives Brad Pitt's character to go on a mission to find out what's really causing these electrical disturbances and whether this is an alien presence or actually his father in hiding?

Almost Perfect Live CG Adaptation
31 July 2019
I was 10 years old when the original came out and remember going to the theater to watch it with my family. At that time it was very exciting to see the characters making jokes and showing their emotions but the cartoon version was very cartoony.

Now being an adult I see why Disney is re-releasing The Lion King as a live-action CG film. In my opinion they hit the CG spot on and made almost all the animals look very realistic. This aspect of the film was probably the best aspect. The emotional side and connection with the characters was a bit less then the original cartoon yet had an added depth because of the realisticness. They really did do a good job with making those hyenas look very nasty!

So if you're a fan of The Lion King and you watched it when you were a little kid or even as an adult I feel like you will enjoy this live-action CG version of The Lion King. It is essentially the same movie.

Dark is how X-Men should be
19 June 2019
Professor X finally sees his own flaws and how manipulation of the mind, no matter the positive intentions, can really screw things up. Dark Phoenix has a simple storyline with some poor performances from Sophia Turner yet I still loved seeing her in action.

I also loved the fact that Storm, Beast, Cyclops and Magneto got a lot of action scenes. Overall the film seems flat yet has some interesting concepts that if explored deeper and with greater emotion could have made the film stand out.

Unneeded Jurassic Sequels
10 June 2018
Jurassic World 2 is a largely unneeded movie made just to make more for the franchise. Just watch the trailer for the movie and you pretty much have already watched the whole thing.

The Plot The dinosaur inhabited island where all the Jurassic Park movies and the last Jurassic World movie took place is going to be destroyed completely by the active volcano which will annihilate any living thing.

The current owner of the dinosaurs devises a plan to get all sorts of species off the island before it blows. Specifically he wants Blue, the velociraptor from the previous film. The only way he can track and capture Blue is by convincing Owen (Chris Pratt) to go to the island and help. The only person who could convince Owen to come is his ex Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard).

This is where the movie gets silly. Owen, Claire and their team of comic relief characters who are highly irritating and irrelevant to the plot jump on a plane the next morning, track down Blue, and get betrayed by the owner's men and left to die all before the volcano erupts. Before getting blown up the team is able to sneak onto the ship carrying Blue and 11 other dinosaur species back to where all of this started. At Dr. Hammond's estate.

It's Owen and Claire's mission to stop whatever plans the owner of these dinosaurs has in store for the shipment of dinosaurs on the ship they're hiding away on.

Other Thoughts I'd say one thing this film did good was paying little homages to all the other Jurassic movies. Here is a list of 23. But this positive is also a negative. One of the reasons why I got so bored was because the movie was so reminiscent of the old ones. There was nothing new here.

Final Thoughts Not so surprising to say there is a third Jurassic World movie planned for 2021. After what I saw today I don't think there's too many new things they can bring to the series to make it original. So I'm not dying to see the next installment.

PS. I loved Jeff Goldblum's Monologues both at the beginning and end of the film. He's always been my favorite character in this series.

Welcome Back Han Solo
29 May 2018
SPOILER: Han Solo is one of the best characters in the Star Wars Universe. So my opinion on a stand-alone movie might be a bit biased but I have more than loving Han Solo on my side. Solo: A Star Wars Story was filled with laughs, surprises and twists all with fantastic direction from Ron Howard.

The Plot We're introduced to a young Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) which btw nailed the role that made Harrison Ford famous, along with his lovely girlfriend Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke) on the ship building world of Corellia. Both of them want to escape their life of servitude, buy their own ship and fly around the galaxy together.

With a tube full of the hyperfuel coaxium both Solo and Qi'ra head to a security gate to escape from the planet. Solo makes it but unfortunately Qi'ra gets caught during the deed therefore stuck on the planet.

Solo swears he'll find a way to buy a ship and come back to rescue her.

Three Years Later Solo ends up joining the Empire with the goal of being a pilot but gets expelled from the Imperial Flight Academy for insubordination. He's stuck as an infantryman on the planet Mimban where he meets Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) and his team posing as Imperial soldiers.

Solo tries blackmailing them into letting him in on their plan to steal Imperial equipment so he can get off the planet and rescue his love. The posers draw this to the attention of an officer near by and end up throwing Solo into a pit where he was meant to be eaten by the vicious Chewbacca. Their meeting was quite engaging and hilarious.

Solo is able to speak a bit of Chewie's language and convinces him to team up and jump on the posers ship where they all go off together on a mission to steal huge crates of the hyperfuel coaxium for the dangerous high-ranking boss of Crimson Dawn.

My Thoughts At first I was confused about where this film fits into the Star Wars timeline especially after seeing a special cameo you'll be completely surprised about. The timeline is explained well in this article. I recommend reading that article if you're confused on where this movie fits in.

I felt like having a Solo movie was actually a great move for the franchise since in Episode VII Solo was tragically killed by Kylo Ren which I personally think was one of the stupidest moves ever made.

So it was wonderful having Solo back in his own film especially after having no Solo whatsoever in Episode VIII which in my opinion was the worst Star Wars ever. There were too many things wrong with that film and one of them was the void left by Solo's absence.

In Conclusion It was great seeing a young Solo on screen along with Chewie and Lando Clarissian (Donald Glover). I loved Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke. Best of all Alden Ehrenreich really played his part well. He is Han Solo.

Deadpool 2 (2018)

Deadpool Has a Soft Side
26 May 2018
Deadpool Has a Soft Side I'm a huge fan of the first Deadpool and thought the hilarity of it could not be topped. Deadpool 2 came close. I was also glad to see that Deadpool had a soft side we saw a glimpse of in the first movie but full fledged in the second film.

The Plot Deadpool hunts down bad guys as usual but screws up a little by missing his chance to kill one he's been hunting down. The bad guys follow him back home to where his girlfriend, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) is and ends up shooting her in the heart before Deadpool could save her.

Distraught, Deadpool nearly kills himself after killing his girlfriend's killer. He turns the gas on in his apartment then lies on a bunch of barrels of gas igniting it with his lit cigarette blowing up his whole body. It doesn't work. Colossus ends up bringing all of Deadpool's body parts to Xavier's School where he tries yet again to convince him to join the X-Men.

It seems like Deadpool has a change of heart. After his girlfriend got murdered he feels like he needs to set his life on a different path. He puts effort into trying to be an X-Men but just doesn't really fit in. Nonetheless Colossus takes Deadpool along with Negasonic and her lesbian girlfriend Yukio on a training mission.

This is when we meet Russell (AKA Firefist), a troubled teen who has the ability to incinerate anyone with fire that comes out of his fists who happens to be the target of a cyborg called Cable (Josh Brolin, Thanos haha) from the future sent back in time to kill Russell before the kid can do any damage. Sound familiar? Like Terminator? Only in the slightest.

Cable has his reasons but Deadpool will do anything in his power to keep this kid safe from Cable. It's part of his new found path. He feels he owes it to his girlfriend. Somehow he sees the good in Russell.

The question is how will Deadpool reach this kid's heart?

Three Other Aspects 1. In my opinion the humor was a bit forced. It just did not have the same gut-hurt-laughing-moments as the first film. There wasn't anything new there.

The best line, however, was when Deadpool called Cable Thanos! That got me going.

2. The X-Force was introduced then most of the members were killed off (Brad Pitt cameo) with exception for brilliantly played Domino (Zazie Beetz). I felt like introducing these characters was useless, a bit funny in the way they died, but nonetheless useless. Unless they're bringing them back for the third movie?

3. I loved the fact that Juggernaut (Also played by Ryan Reynolds!) made a pretty big showing in this movie. Him and Colossus have the best showdown of the film!

As a kid, I loved watching the X-Men cartoon. Juggernaut happens to be one of my favorite villains in the X-Men universe so it was awesome for me to see him in action.

Final Thoughts The only reason why I knocked the score of Deadpool 2 down to three and a half stars is its lack in original humor. I was grateful to see Deadpool grow as a character with actual heart. He set aside his selfishness and did what he thought was right. Deadpool's heart is the heart of this movie.

Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed the movie as much if not more than I did.

The Unneeded Sequel to Skyline
20 May 2018
Beyond Skyline is the unneeded sequel to the 2010 flop movie Skyline. Although I love science fiction I wasn't much of a fan of Skyline. So why did I choose to watch the sequel?

I like the main actor Frank Grillo who stared in The Purge: Anarchy. The second aspect is the fact that the second half of thBeyond Skylinee movie took place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia at Prambanan Temple. There Are two famous Indonesian actors staring in this film and I'm actually living in the country part of it was filmed in.

The Plot An L.A. detective with a drinking problem (Grillo) gets a call to come down to the police station to get his son out of holding. This is where the action starts at the very beginning. The aliens come blaring in attracting all the humans who look into the blue lights which suck them up into the ship hovering over the city.

The detective and son make it into the subway with several passengers and the operator of the subway hiding from the blue lights. Eventually they get sucked up into the ship, fight a bit and crash land in Indonesia where they meet Kanye (Pamelyn Chee) and Sua (Iko Uwais) teaming up to defeat the aliens with some interesting twists along the way.

My Thoughts I just couldn't really get into the movie. I thought the fighting was alright but it just seemed to be random.

Just as an example. There was this blind character who I though might have some key role since he was in the movie about halfway through but then just ended up dying a useless death.

There were a few positives though such as a bit more explanation of why the aliens were on Earth and the fact we got a chance to see inside the alien ships. The location was exotic of course. It's Indonesia!

The key to defeating the aliens was also unique as well and very human.

Overall I wouldn't recommend watching this unless you know these Indonesian actors or you're a fan of Frank Grillo. There was just no substance to the movie.

Blood, Booty, Drugs and Revenge!
19 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I was not going into this movie seriously when I started watching it. I just thought it'd be nice to see this chick get revenge for whatever these guys did to her. And yes she did! Lots of blood and booty along the way.

The Plot A young woman and her boyfriend who's already married arrive at a secluded luxurious house in a helicopter in the middle of a desert. The helicopter leaves them behind for a few days to enjoy each other's company. The second day of enjoying this luxurious house two strange men arrive who are supposedly the boyfriend's colleagues who are there to go 'hunting'.

There's more partying, alcohol, booty, and a small plastic bag of peyote which the woman hides in her necklace for safe keeping. The next day one of the strange men comes on to the woman who is unwilling. He disgustingly rapes her all the while her boyfriend is off at a meeting and the other strange man does nothing to stop the rape from happening.

The boyfriend returns, finds out about the rape but does nothing and becomes a complete asshole toward his girlfriend.

She runs into the desert still in her panties. They chase her and end up catching up to her just so the boyfriend could push her off a high cliff no way in real life anyone could survive. But she did and sets off to start taking the guys out who did this to her one by one with lots of unrealistic squirting blood along the way.

My Thoughts The movie has a lot of holes and is extremely unrealistic yet I had a fun time watching it because of its senselessness. Remember the peyote she kept for safe keeping?

That comes in extremely useful when she ends up hiding in a cave to heal her awful stomach wound after being pushed off the high cliff. She eats the peyote, cuts open a beer can, heats it up in the fire and sears her wounds shut.

This was the most epic scene since she didn't scream at all. She was extremely high after all.

Should You Watch It? It's a senseless movie with lots of blood and booty. If that's all you want to see you'll love it. If not, I recommend skipping it.

Thanks for reading and I'll see you next review.
