Goodbye (2022)
Poor from every angle
This movie is a disaster on every level - from story, to acting, to dog's name, to message, to direction. I still sat through it and finished watching it, although I skipped through some parts as they were too cringy. Humor was ill placed many times. The movie started with a typical bollywood party song with cringy lyrics that in retrospect foretells the fate of the movie. It seemed like the movie was going to provide a fresh take on rituals surrounding death but the acting, story and direction were too poor to bring that idea to fruition. Some of the characters were unnatural, overly polarized and their evolution was too quick and not as creative as it could have been. Only thing that seemed to be done right was Bachan's portrayal as a short tempered father.
Unhinged (2020)
A woman alone in the world with ..uh..no one to help her.
The movie started off interesting but the moment the first attack occurs by The Man, I wanted to stop watching it. I feel that it might be inspired by the 2015 Nova Scotia shooting where one man went on a rampage - killing people and burning houses.
There were a few things that made the movie unbelievable:
1. The man is a hulk of some sort who, despite being shot and suffering from some disease, is able to run through doors, smash people, etc.
2. He is incredibly lucky to always be saved by a moving car/truck that kills his opponent.
3. ALL of the police in the city is too busy helping with a crash that occurred 10 seconds ago that they can't send anyone to go after the man who caused the crash and has been on the TV all day for being on a murder spree. NONE of the bystanders seem to be able to help the woman or any other victims.
4. He was able to track her because he planted her own iPad in her car and stole her phone to track the iPad. Huh?
Overall: story was laughable but decent acting and good action.
Shava Ni Girdhari Lal (2021)
Poor acting and story
Surprised that Neeru Bajwa would sign for a movie like this. This movie fails to develop any solid story, does not elicit any emotion other than a couple laughs here and there and is cringe worthy over all - at the level of acting, location, storywriting.
Ibiza (2018)
Was looking for a movie to make me LOL and I found it.
The film was funny and full of excitement. The dialogue, the fun (party scenes) and the jokes all felt natural, though, with little cliche. Some of the pop songs, i felt, were forced in the movie just to amp up the excitement. There did not seem to be a solid, clear story line, which was really the only down side of the movie. I still really enjoyed it, felt FOMO and laughed out loud - and that's exactly what I was looking for.
Away (2020)
Poor direction and storyline
I just finished watching 4 episodes and I am quite disappointed. The show is mostly about the past life of characters and not at all about the mission to mars. It's a one-episode-one-story type of show where there is no major story buildup about the mission to mars but just dealing with random mishaps and relating them to the characters' lives (who all seem highly unqualified for the mission). There is not much originality in the show.
The Sleepover (2020)
one word: cheesy
Seeing others reviews, i guess this is a good movie to watch with kids, but i cringed and yawned through it. It is extremely cheesy, unoriginal from literally the first scene. I still finished it, though. I did not expect this from Netflix films.
USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage (2016)
The actual footage and pictures at the end were way more impactful than the movie.
I had recently stumbled upon a youtube video about the history of USS Minneapolis and really wanted to watch a movie about it. After watching "the Finest Hour" and "the Command" I was very excited to have found another disaster-in-the-ocean movie. However, I was pretty disappointed with the movie from early on.
CGI in the movie was not believable and took away from the experience. The sinking of the ship was almost like watching Titanic again with similar shots, angles, and keys to a lock-up falling in water , except Titanic did it WAY better.
Then there were the sharks. The actual story is tragic enough that there was no need for the dramatic, surprise "out of nowhere" attacks by the sharks. I really did not like that there was so much emphasis on the sharks from early on. I feel that it should have been a surprise to the viewers so as to give the viewers that feeling of a disaster on top of a disaster. At no point did I feel that I was with the characters feeling their pain. Neither through the sinking nor during the 3.5 days of floating in the ocean. One of the bigger disappointments was that the movie failed to show how men were scattered over miles after the sinking of the ship. The movie moved on way too fast for viewers (or at least for me) to be fully immersed into the scenes. The way that the Japanese submarine was introduced just seemed too rushed. The way it surfaced to the top before attacking USS Minneapolis was too abrupt.
I did like the overhead shot of the ship while passing under the golden gate bridge.
I give the movie 4 stars because it was still informational about the disaster and what followed.
