Crying Wolf 3D (I) (2015)
5/10
A Howl Of A Good Time
30 August 2023
I can't rate this any higher than a 5 because it's not a good film in the traditional sense. Everything from the plot to the story, the acting, the effects etc is a mess.

The themes and narratives seem to be pulled out of thin air and there's just no cohesion to the film at all. A character that's introduced briefly you'll find out later might have a huge back story where as a central character has no depth at all.

Having said all of that, this film achieves what every low budget horror film *should* achieve and that is that it is hugely entertaining. There's enough pace and action packed into the runtime you'll never be bored. Yes everything in this movie looks cheap but its a blast and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I'd love to see what the writers and director would do with a more structured plot, better cast and a bigger budget.

All in all a fun time!

Hidden Ireland (2020 Podcast Series)

Tries way too hard..
22 June 2022
From the intro and first couple of eps I could tell that this wasnt for me. The description of the podcast: "Join Michael Stranney, podcaster, investigative journalist and part-time window cleaner on his quest to unearth the lesser known people, places, and peculiarities of the ancient Emerald Isle he calls home. Michael's mission is to lift the lid on the island of Ireland - and he won't let wild cows, the country's fastest funeral directors or extreme subsets of Catholicism stop him. Hidden Ireland is a Spotify Original, written by and starring Michael Stranney. The producer is Nick Coupe and it's a Whistledown production", is kind of misleading, this is satire and purely fictional.

The humour and comedy is reminiscent of "Bridget and Eamon" or "killinaskully", "The Naked Camera" etc They try incredibly hard to be quirky especially with the first ep but it just comes off as contrived and predictable and ultimately boring in my opinion.

If the podcast was actually about real characters and real life, i'm sure theres plenty of genuine oddballs in Ireland that would make for a very interesting podcast without the need for forced, scripted comedy.

But hey if you're a fan of RTE style sitcoms this maybe for you. Unfortunately i'm not.

I lasted only 10 minutes....
3 March 2022
Was scrolling through prime last night and this cover caught the eye. I've been very fortunate with the horror section in prime lately and came across some absolute low budget gems like "The Halloween Party", "The Selling" "super Hot" and "Making Monsters". Each of these films work within their means and did their best to deliver a good compelling story with a limited budget. This did not, unfortunately. Its was just cliche after cliche after cliche so I gave it 10 mins and just couldn't watch anymore.
