Carol (2015)
Julieta & Julieta
Synapse: New York, located in the 50's. Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara), a young woman who works in a shop in Manhattan who dreams of a better life, knows one day Carol Aird (Cate Blanchett), an elegant and sophisticated woman who is trapped in an unhappy marriage. Among them comes an increasingly intense and profound immediate attraction, which will change their lives forever.
To sum it all, it is simple and correct to say that everything starts with a look.
From the silence, calm and shyness that surrounds Therese, together with the strength and moderation of Carol, a perfect film, which is waving between the explicit and the insinuating is built.
A sensually elegant and suggestive subtly told story, which catches us and takes us to a time where a relationship between two women was almost impossible. An intimate and deep history.
This homosexual romance is played in such an elegant way, I think that even the homophobic entreat for this couple were together. For the maturity with which it is carried out, it radiates naturalness and normality that has to be presented topic. In my opinion I think that the film does not seek to show a history of homosexuality, but a story of love in difficult times, like Romeo and Juliet for instance.
The story attacking us sensitivity, squeezes our hearts and keeps us expectantly. Indeed, I think one of the things that causes to see it, is just begging for them kiss once. For the character of Therese, as mentioned at the beginning, it represents a shyness that makes see fragile, and manages to stir us as teens stomach waiting for the first kiss.
