Running Shaadi (2017)
Sweet boy falls for mean girl, overrated. SPOILERS
This film was the worst film I saw this year. Writers cant decided what it wants to be: romcom, thriller, or underdog story. The film starts off with Nimmi getting an abortion. This sets a pretty dark tone for something that has been pitched as a light romcom. Ram Bharose is this doormat of a guy who looks way too old and mature to be putting up with Nimmi's crap.I'm not sure how old he is supposed to be, but he doesn't look younger than 25 to me. Amit Sadh is a handsome man and has an assertive air about him. It's just not believable that a guy like him would be so spineless around Taapsee pannu's character. In fact, he doesn't look like he would have issues getting with women at all, not sure why he was even running after Taapsee. Taapsee Pannu is a good actress, but here she is playing a flat character. Her character is obviously a brat, but the scene where she reveals to Ram the whole drama of why she ran away with him made me think she must be borderline sociopath. There could have been a ton of potential with this script, but the director just dropped the ball here. In the midst of woman centric films, this could have been an empowering story for males for a change. Why not center it on Bharose's immigrant experience and trying to make an identity for himself in a new city. I also really really didn't like this film glorifying bad behavior of females towards men. Nimmi sees Bharose as a toy and the director plays this off as if it is funny and empowering! I wish Bharose would have fallen in love with the Biharan girl.
