The Martian (2015)

I'm not science fact crazy, but I can tell you it was simply boring
17 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not crazy about science based fact movies. Actually many of the facts I've read about in other reviews I didn't even notice.

Yes, some basic stuff that we common mortals could see were a little bit too much. And here is what happened: He lift 400 Kg rocket top (Yes that technical I am), eating just a third of the food portion initially initially as healthy, for I don't know how many months; and He also was as good in the head as everybody else after isolation far away from his planet with the potential risk of dying from anything. And this just made the whole thing BORING to watch very soon from the beginning. Why should he be saved if he was so OK? Can you just take off your helmet and die?

I didn't feel anything... No tension, no sympathy, no anticipation... He just went from situation to situation without breaking, without nothing... nada.

This also made the movie terribly paced, went it was supposed to be the peak of all trouble you were already tired of it and couldn't care less, cause he'd be fine anyway, with incredible ease... as every single time before.

All and all, I'm not disappointed. Because space movies are never scientifically accurate nor have well developed characters. They are about entertainment. This failed at this too.. but meh, it could have been worst.

The Revenant (I) (2015)

If you think this movie has no plot, then you weren't paying attention
2 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I never review movies that has so many reviews, mainly because everything is said when it has over 700 reviews. This time though I've only read this movie is great but has no plot, that this guy has more lives than a cat, and that revenge is second to the survival story.

*BIG FAT spoilers* I don't think so, this is not a survival story, cause Glass's purpose was never to survive. He only wanted to revenge, and moved by this desire, he survived the unthinkable, which makes sense because only with a huge determination and soul pain, could somebody endure all he went through. So it only makes sense that his pain would motive his revenge desire and his fight for survival. He said it himself, that he was not afraid to die, so he only did it to revenge.

Sure, probably there was not a plot twist or i wasn't the most original story. But life is kind of always the same stuff over and over again, and this movie made epic and beautiful, things that we all know: human determination and love, making possible the impossible.

Love Struck (2014)

A tragic comedy or funny tragedy that works out pleasantly
5 January 2016
Apo erota translates as "for love". This is a romantic comedy that doesn't feel like it even though it is funny and romantic. Altogether it is fresh and, deep down, just tragic. Bittersweet ending and it left me wondering ¿Is sanity over love/life that reasonable?. It does't seem to me that being sane is more important than been happy after i watched this movie.

I've seen this "losing of one's mind for love" subject in Greek movies and culture, but this one has a very modern flavor.

The plot is something. Not the usual "I woke up in my mother's body" kind of unrealistic, magical, lecturing situation. But it could have easily been that, and total failure with an average execution. The lead actor helps a lot to avoid this, his performance was outstanding: he carries all the craziness and tragedy of the movie, and he pulls it off.

I don't like to give spoilers, all I can really say this movie gives a bit of that empty feeling that life is not so good. It's one of those that make you reflect and, this time, I don't even know what it really wants me to reflect about or if that was even the point.

Criminally Ignored
18 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It's surprising that this film only has eight reviews. It is not a perfect film, but it's definitely worth much more attention.

It shows the life of the Greek seamen's wives with very beautiful landscapes, costumes and scenes. These aspects showed to be well taken care of. I just wonder what happened to make up, it looked amateur at times. The performances were good in general, some were outstanding.

Even though love triangles featuring siblings have been done before (obviously) what the story tells doesn't feel wore out at all and has a lot to offer. It is an outstanding story (it must be a good book). Beautiful and heartbreaking this movie happened to awake a petty feeling in me: the jealousy some characters felt. I'm definitely grateful to a movie that touches me that way. The only thing I feel sorry about is teenagers watching crappy movies like fifty shades of gray while touching and culturally rich movies like this one are criminally ignored.

Wild Tales (2014)

It is not only wild but it makes you feel wild too
10 April 2015
The director takes you where he wants to. Somewhere between third story your mindset is completely transformed and you are approvingly awaiting something explosive, violent to happen. It awakens something wild in the viewer and it doesn't try to morally justify the violence portrayed. It just makes you connect with something primitive and approving of the character's behaviors. I loved the music, in the very first story It helps to accomplish a thrilling, exciting beginning. You'll find it hard to choose your favorite one but i bet the third one will be the winner most of the times. It is just amazingly savage, crude and somehow funny. The film really flies by but it doesn't leave an unsatisfying feeling which happens often after watching compilations of short films.
