Kübra (2024)
Boring and odd
This story about a possible Muslim Messiah tried hard to be taken seriously, but the writing was just too shallow and weird to be very engaging. Some of the actors did a credible job, but too many of their lines were stilted and dull. They were almost perpetually tense, angry, and anxious. The main character stared wordlessly a lot of the time and was a frustratingly shallow actor. Another nitpick: people repeated his name almost constantly. I watched the entire series because a friend asked me to, and I kept expecting there to be conversation-worthy revelations, but they never came. This was a truly disappointing waste of time.
Ink (2009)
Wow. A powerful portrayal of our supreme value
The film runs a fair distance while being quite confusing. Then it becomes apparent that reality is taking place on two parallel planes. The fascinating and stirring part is that beings on the "other" plane are fighting for us, either for our ultimate welfare or demise. This resonated for me as a person of faith who believes that, though this film portrayed it in other terms, there actually are good and evil beings (angels) who fight for and against us in order to influence our eternal destiny. Somehow this movie succeeded in making deeply stirring affirmations of how valuable we are, and how worth fighting for.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Oh my! That was SO fun!
The scope, swagger, effects, music/score, cinematography and story were amazing. It reminded me of Lord of the Rings at its best, but was substantially darker. It was absolutely a blast to watch. Intense, even a bit awe-inspiring at times. Jude Law was terrific in his awfulness. Please, please let there be a sequel.
The Stranger (2020)
Pretty amazing, really
Gripping, tense, super well-written with terrific character development, great acting, kept my wife and I guessing the whole way. The best suspense-mystery we've seen in a long time.
