Survivor: Telenovela (2022)
Hear me out
Well, I have mixed feelings about this and its not purely emotionally driven to be honest.
Jessi and Cody were the strongest duo I have ever seen since the Wendell Domenick Duo in Survivor 36.
I do understand that Jessi feels he had to pull a big move moving forward as Cody was about to make a MAJOR 3 pointer by blindsiding Karla, and sending her home with her idol, which would give Cody a lot of points from the Jury and set Jessi's chances of winning way back should the duo reach the final 3, but hear me out.
This is a game of numbers after all, and it seems to me that Jessi made a huge blunder with the Cody move, because his best shot now is a guaranteed reach to the final 4( idol in hand), thats it! If he loses the immunity challenge at that stage, there is no way in hell anyone will take him to the final 3! He will go to a fire making challenge, period! (Also, Jessie never won a single immunity challenge to this point which makes this decision even worse)
He will be so close, yet cut short! That is not a very intelligent strategic move in any way possible! In what logic is that a good move!
He would be better off keeping Cody and then both of them using their idols at the final 5 to guarantee final 4 spots. At that stage, any one of the two winning immunity will get the chance to cut the other one loose, and I would understand it more then, and only then!! Even by them both not winning immunity at the final 4, they would still get the chance to go against each other for a fire making challenge, or not, who knows. Its all up in the air at that stage of the game. It also guarantees one of them to reach the final 3 and whoever reaches the final 3 will win 100%. Now its all blown away! And the Duo could possibly be nullified by this move.
At least in this way, Jessi would have way more options and less risk of reaching the final 3 and even be able to plead to the jury that he had the power to vote off Cody but decided strategically it was not the best move as it will jeopardise his final 3 spot and he could also make a claim on how he sucks at challenges and had to keep his duo active for Cody to win them the immunity at the end. He could also point out how Cody never knew about his hidden immunity idol. It makes way more sense.
I repeat, I am really shocked for strategic reasons and nothing emotional at all.
I guess its true what they say, "A mistake of one legendary player equals the mistakes of one thousand normal players", I don't know, I just made that up, as I feel in the finale, this will epically backfire on one of the greatest players to every play Survivor.
One last point, there was so much talking points for Jessi to the Jury at the final 3. I truly believed we will be having the same Wendell Domenick moment were all the votes were deadlocked at 5-5 and Laurel had to pick the sole survivor. I thought this one would be a 6-5 either way.
Sadly, Jessi's downside was that he was insecure and not as confident as I thought he was in his game and the perception of his game that he had to force this blindside.
PS: I haven't seen the finale yet but kudos to this episode as it kept my heart racing at the very end.
I will join survivor one day so remember this review as I will quote it on the show. If you do join before me, then feel free to use this reference, haha. 'BOKA is the name.
Now lets move on to the finale and see how right or wrong I was.
The Walking Dead: Stalker (2020)
What a Ride!! Watch it in the dark
Boy oh boy, I'm truly baffled by the 1s and 2s. I understand that each has their own opinion but now it really looks silly to rate that low.
Anyway, the episode was creepy from the get go. The tempo had me vibrating at a high frequency and was maintained throughout. I won't go into any spoilers but the sense of realism and the true essence of the whisperers was felt to the bone in this one. Kudos to the director, the music scoring, the great angles and creative shooting as well as the well edited sequences that had me personally on Full Alert mode without ever missing a beat.
Hope this high level is kept till the end of the season as the last episode was disappointing to say the least.
I believe all we're asking for is to maintain the crippling sense of fear and be reminded that no one is safe.
10/10 for me
Joker (2019)
Knock Knock
It must have been a daunting task for Joaquin Phoenix to play such a complex depressed character and still manage to live up to the iconic role of Joker.
I understand why many have misunderstood this movie, I have too. I saw it without having much sleep the night before and that is why I didn't grasp what was really being unveiled before my eyes.
This is the kind of movie that requires full attention from start to finish. If you are the type to have your nachos, check your phone or even go to the toilet in the middle of a movie then just pass on this movie altogether and save everybody the half hearted critique.
I have no idea how some have rated this 1. I mean even in my first visit, with my misunderstanding, it still was a good movie, just didn't realise HOW good!
Only after my revisit, have I realised that I am witnessing the emergence of a timeless classic. Its too much to take in. No movie in the past decade has managed to break into the top 20 rated movies of all time( IMDB)( With the exception of Inception ). Joker has danced his way into the big leagues with ease.
The writing is perfectly woven from start to finish. Everything in the movie adds up. It is a really depressing movie, a wake up call to those looking to wake up.
The 1 star ratings given to this movie are by the ones who enjoy sleeping I guess, or just too scared to face the misery of reality outside the borders of their beds.
This movie is just too much to comprehend. Your emotions will be tackled, your sympathy will be questioned, and your morals will definitely be in check.
We don't live in this world alone, but many of us rather live pretending to.
The symbolism is refreshing and the lessons are intimidating.
It is a major mistake to compare Heath Ledger's Joker to Joaquin's. The plot and genre of both movies are totally different. Dark Knight's Joker was a cool, diabolic mastermind, a savage genius, full of charisma and dark humour. Not to take anything away from Heath's legendary performance, but the writing of Dark Knight, along with the sequence of events , really helped catapult Heath Ledger's Joker to an unprecedented summit. Imagine Heath Ledger playing the Joker with my writing? ... Exactly.
Both actors have mastered their portrayal of Joker in their own way. No comparison is valid.
Both actors have shown the dark side of the Joker.
Joaquin was just too dark, too much.
I have read somewhere that a critic said something on the lines of " the world is not ready for a movie like Joker", well spot on. Might I add, the world is a circus and Joker is the elephant in the room.
Lets just enjoy the fact that there are two Jokers in the top 20 rated movies of all time.
This is the kind of movie you would want to watch again and again and again. Not because you're insane, but because the world is, and your sanity is just too precious.
Joke Uh
One last point:
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
My take on the final Crash scene:
When mental healthcare is trivialized or overlooked ,(Ambulance)
Security becomes in jeopardy (police)
And in turn,
People will find it hard to move around(Taxi)
And society will ultimately become paralysed.
Finally,
Don't forget to smile.
The Walking Dead: The Storm (2019)
Angela Kang, thank you
What a great season. After last week's episode, it was a bit naive to think the finale would end with a bang. The finale was very fitting. Not Perfect but great nonetheless.
I felt the need to exhale a bit after the pikes/ borders scene. This episode had to be a mediater for the REAL storm that will follow.
There is still a bit of glimpses of mediocrity in Jerry's performance as well as Judith. It feels a bit off and feels like some cringe creeping back into the episode whenever those two charcters appear. I hope that Judith and Jerry's presence is transformed in the next season in a way that fits the realism and identity of the WALKING DEAD. Kudos to both of them, just my two cents for the future, all Love. Hope my point reaches you.
Alpha is still maintaining that disturbing presence and the feel of uneasiness which goes on to show What a great actress Samantha is.
The episode was very quick, not a boring moment felt along with smooth editing and lovely shots of the ice storm from start to finish.
The final interaction between Negan and Michonne raises a lot of eyebrows for what might be unleashed in retaliation to the whisperes.
The very last static message was highly unexpected and still remains very mysterious. Cool touch.
From what has been presented to us in the finale, Season 10 has a lot to offer, from Whisperers clash, Negan's intervention, Rosita giving birth, more losses, static voice identity revealed, Lydia blending in, King and Queen breakup aftermath and a lot lot more.
Given the above known points and the much more unkonwn plots and secrets in the hands of our beloved Showrunner, Queen Angy, season 10 should be nothing short of Spectacular.
My personel expectation is simplly and totally elimanting the cringe factor, a lot more seriousness portrayed and breathtaking directing as well as writing.
Series Resurrection approved Angela my dear,( Queen Angy)
Now its time to load up the big guns.
See you guys in October.
The Walking Dead: Chokepoint (2019)
Hiccup episode
Last 4 episodes were strong with Alpha's chilling presence.
My expectation for this season with Angela Kang as showrunner is so far so good because of how terrible and cringey season 8 was, so a lot of damage had to be repaired, great job Angela so far, kudos.
But Please there's still work to be done, please get rid of the cringey moments please please PLEASE, thank you.
This episode had a cringe moment for the ages, the movie response, come on Carol.
Guys..... a movie?? Really?
Beta scenes were cool, Carol's movie line keeps bugging me so bad along with the Master of cringe,; Prince Henry. Hey Prince, I hope you become a martyr, its a good thing for the show, for everybody, trust me.
As I said before, last 4 episodes were great, especially the the last one, I've seen it twice, very creepy and very much alive and REAL , not so much this time,
Please bring back the sense of realism, and one last thing, Henry,( don't know your real name) and (nothing personal) but get another job, acting is dull, killing every scene, no hard feelings Prince.
Rest in peace along with all the cringe and bring the walking dead back to life.
7 for the cringey moments
