Snack vs. Chef (2022– )
6/10
Hosts are annoying, but interesting concept
31 January 2023
They have something in terms of the concept, it's a cool/fun idea. You learn a little bit about food creation and it makes you think a little more deeply about the snacks we encounter on a day to day basis. Only thing is I just dislike pretty much everyone involved except the woman judge. The hosts are unnecessary and highly annoying, and the male judge is only slightly better. The only one I take seriously is the female judge. Even most of the contestants are pretty annoying, just have to get past that. That said, I hope it gets renewed, it is an interesting concept, just a little clumsily executed.

Great story that they kept yanking you out of for some reason
10 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As stated by many reviews, gorgeous looking movie, no debate there. Great soundtrack too. And the storyline was promising, but just when they'd start to really sink you into it, they'd yank you back out with some stupid humor (seriously, who approved the ninja baby character? Completely ridiculous) or by bashing you over the head with the theme of "people not trusting and working together is what ruins the world". We get it! Show don't tell. But on that note there was UTTERLY no reason the dragon had to stay hidden, their explanation was not sufficient - people worship the dragons, they would not harm her. There was no reason for Raya to steal the pieces, she literally just needed to walk up with the last dragon and they would've done anything for the dragon. Oh wait but that would end the movie too quickly, so we need some half-baked reason why that can't happen.

On the whole though, if you can ignore that plot hole, the bits of childish humor, and feeling like your being jerked around by the storyline, it is still enjoyable. Certainly not a top Disney movie but still has its charm and emotion.

A bad movie that I can't help but enjoy
25 April 2021
From a purely logical stand point this was not a good movie. Script was cheesy and predictable, there were lots of cliches, poor acting, and things that just didn't make sense or we're not realistic.

That being said, from an emotional standpoint, I can't help but really enjoy this movie. Yes, it's clichéd but sometimes that's enjoyable, and the premise was fun. I think Luke Benward actually did a fantastic job, he was the only one who seemed natural and like he wasn't reading from a script (I don't hold Dove Cameron accountable for the bad performance, I'm sure she was directed to act so over the top). And there were just enough scenes with actual heart that I could get past the scenes that made me want to roll my eyes. At the end of the day, it's a Disney Channel movie, so you can just have fun with it!

Not a good original
27 January 2021
I didn't go in to this expecting an exact remake, I love the 1998 cartoon, but I was ready for a different and original twist. Unfortunately, what we got was neither a great original or a great remake. I enjoyed parts of it, the lead was good, and I could laugh at some of the attempted humor, but overall it was just a poorly made movie. So many things that happen are completely illogical and or not at all realistic. I felt the addition of magic was unnecessary, especially if this is supposed to be the "real world", but even that I could've accepted if they had been consistent! But no, sometimes magic can do everything, sometimes magic can do nothing. And don't even get me started on the men who can just run up walls for no reason.

Not the best
2 October 2020
I didn't hate it, but not one of the better Netflix romcoms. Main issue was the use of the old standby of lazy writing - these characters have a problem, so rather than talk about it like normal human beings, they're just not going to so there can be conflict in this movie. Also the characters were alright but not overly likeable, I wasn't particularly rooting for them

Enola Holmes (2020)

Somewhat clumsy plot but still very enjoyable
28 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Criticism first - they sort of dropped the ball on the plot halfway through and it was never wrapped up very nicely. Also if the major plot twist was supposed to be a surprise they utterly failed, anyone with half a brain could see it coming. I know that all sounds harsh and not deserving of an 8, but they did make up for it. The movie was fun, fresh, exciting, and definitely made me laugh out loud at many points. The actors were wonderful, it was beautifully filmed, and as a huge Sherlock Holmes fan I was not disappointed with the portrayal. Overall the general feel of the movie makes me rate it a little higher than I normally would given how the plot wound up and I would watch it again, or another if they make one.
